“Friendly staff in charming town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We selected Morro Bay on a geographic basis since it fit in with our travel plans from L.A. to S.F. with various stops along the way. What a pleasant surprise this hotel and the town was for us. We were humbled by mistakenly booking the hotel for the wrong day so that upon our arrival Lacey (Manager) advised us that our reservation had been for the prior day. She nonetheless found us a comparable room and graciously charged us only for the one night. Haley was helpful the next day with accommodating a later checkout and providing us with tips for our trip that afternoon to Hearst Castle and Carmel. Breakfast included hot and cold selections and was quite good. The town has fun shops and good restaurants and was so relaxing. The residents and visitors were consistently friendly and the area was excellent for early morning walks. The weather tends to be quite cool and it is typically foggy so that the sun makes infrequent appearances. Still, this is a wonderful town and vacation destination.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the Morro Bay rock have terraces and seem best.

The hotel was clean and the front desk staff were very friendly. We stopped in Morro Bay overnight on our way to Santa Barbara. While the room was clean it had a very strong odor of cleaner which I didn't really like. The breakfast was substandard. The free wifi was handy to have as was the free parking.

Dear Levy21,

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that we weren't able to exceed your overall expectations of our hotel. I'm glad that you enjoyed our accommodations but found our breakfast substandard. We do offer a free hot breakfast that consists of sausage, eggs, 2 flavors for freshly made waffles, 3 types of cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, english muffins, danishes, muffins and a juice bar. We will take your comment into consideration and see how we can enhance our breakfast it in the future.

Sincerely,
Lacey

We chose Morro Bay because it was half way back to So California from our trip to Monterey, before flying home out of LA. I booked on Choice Hotels and couldn't be happier with our room. Very large (I think it might have been a 'handicap' room, because of the size of the bathroom and the bars in the shower). Had a great night there - comfortable bed, the breakfast, standard "Comfort Inn" fare, was adequate. Only little thing - in the breakfast room, which was well serviced and maintained, all the utensils were sticking out of the containers with the 'eating surface' of the spoon, fork, and knife out. In other words, to get a fork, you had to touch the 'eating surface" of the forks around your fork in order to get hold of it, leaving whatever little 'microbes' that might be on your fingers for the next guest. (I'm certainly not a 'germaphobe,' but this did sort of give me pause). I mentioned it to the very efficient young lady working there and she passively agreed but told me that she was doing it "the way we are taught to do it." so, I brought it up to the manager who promised to look into it immediately. Maybe someone else can confirm that they changed this! Other than that, a very nice stay, great price, very clean rooms!

Dear SMT56,

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I am glad that you chose to try out hotel on your way up the coast and was happy about your choice. In regards to your comment about our utensils facing outwards as opposed to inwards, I just wanted to let you know that we took that into consideration and made the change. Our utensils are now facing inwards so that the eating surface area is no longer exposed. We review all guest comments and try to use them as a tool to help enhance future stays. We look forward to seeing you again the next time you are on the coast. To make reservations please call 805-772-4483.

Best Regards,
Lacey

We stayed here at the end of June on our way to San Diego from San Fran. This seemed like a good half way point and we wanted to be near the water rather than inland. The rooms were pricey, but it was Saturday night and this seemed like the best value in the area. I'm glad we stayed here - the rooms were clean (I'm pretty picky) with a view of the rock, the beds were really comfy, the front desk staff were super friendly and helpful, and the location was a block from restaurants, etc. The staff recommended a good wine bar, Stax, that we easily walked to. The breakfast was OK, pretty standard fare. If I were traveling through Morro Bay again, I'd stay here again.

We had a very nice stay a few weekends ago! We stayed on the 3rd floor with balcony & an ocean view room! The room was huge, #305 and had everything you could pretty much ask for. It is a smaller motel but very clean and kept. It is free parking, free full breakfast, and free Wi-Fi included with the price of the room so you can't go wrong there! The motel is within walking distance (1-block) to the embarcadero, lots of shops and restaurants. We were very pleased and will go back!

Room Tip: For an ocean view room with patio ask for room #305, they do have elevators too!

We stayed two nights at this Comfort Inn. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and quiet. Had a balcony with a view (if there wasn't a big tree directly across the street which wasn't the hotel's fault). Only complaint would be no chairs to put on to the balcony so we could sit outside. Breakfast was very adequate but didn't care for the powdered eggs. Overall though, saved a lot of money by having breakfast at the hotel in the morning so we could spend more during the day when we were outside exploring. Very convenient location to be able to walk everywhere and didn't need to move the car. Definitely would stay at this hotel again.

Good:
- free parking, although there are plenty of free places directly on the street
- close to Embarcadero, lots of restaurants

Bad:
- too expensive
- perhaps one level higher than an average motel
- breakfast: plastic cutlery, paper cups and paper plates at breakfast; bad food; I would've rather paid for breakfast somewhere else if I knew this upfront
- no safe and "do not disturb" sign in the room
- had to carry luggage by myself
- the lady at the front desk was on the phone for 15 minutes while we waited for her to check us in
