My husband and I stayed at the Holiday Inn for three nights at the end of July and overall, our stay was enjoyable, but we did have some problems.
As all the other posts describe, this is not your usual Holiday Inn Express - at least not in my eyes. The outside was very lovely and the inside atrium was also nice.
The room itself was of good size and clean. The bathroom was also very nice - much larger than expected in a typical hotel room. It had beautiful granite coutertop and was actually a tub/spa combined. The only complaint was the shower curtain. While I am all for using one of those poles that allows the curtain not to be clinging to yourself while showering, the HIE needs to get a longer shower curtain. It kept slipping and opening because it was so short.
The free breakfast was wonderful - much better than usual. The breakfast eggrolls were the best things I've ever had! My husband and I kept going back for more. Unfortunately, they were only there during the week - not on the weekends. I hope that changes! The other aspects of the breakfast were also good.
I was grateful for the internet/business center (free of charge) and it allowed us to check our emails and catch up on the news.
Our primary complaint - which did put a damper on the stay - was the location of our room. We ended up checking in about 9 pm our first night and the hotel was packed, so we got one of the last two rooms. And unfortunately, it was on the first floor - in the atrium, right next to the breakfast room and meeting rooms. It had to be the worst location for a room. Our assumption is that others who might have checked in before us might have had this room and then quickly asked for another!
The first night we were there, someone was watching TV in the atrium and it echoed into our room. Fortunately, he left by about 10 pm or so. There was also the instance of the pool table being in the atrium and a family was playing pool early on Saturday morning and we could hear the balls clinging together in our room. But the most annoying part was that each morning, I was awoken to hear the maids/staff talking outside our room at 5:30 am. They were setting up for breakfast, etc, but they need to be more respectful of those people who might have the unfortunate episode of having a room right in the Atrium.
If we weren't woken up each morning with the noise, I would have given HIE a better rating. I'm sure we could have moved rooms one of the later days, but by that point, we were already unpacked and settled in. I just can't understand putting a room about 2 feet from the coffee station of the breakfast bar and right next to a meeting room. There were meetings going on during our time there - I'm just glad we weren't planning on sleeping in any of those days!
