“Affordable luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

Casa Munras provided the base for a relaxing getaway. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant serves delicious food. We LOVED our concierge king room! It was spacious, had high ceilings, HUGE bathroom area with the toilet and shower (with five shower heads) separate from the sink, counter, and large soaking tub. There are plenty of storage drawers and shelves, and a mini fridge and coffee maker. The fireplace is cozy and the bed is so comfy.

Upon arrival they brought a complimentary cucumber and melon infused water to our room--refreshing. They also have other complimentary infused water and mexican coffee in the lobby. You can check out DVDs to watch on the player in your room. They rent bicycles for the day ($25). This hotel is within walking distance of Old Town Monterey and about a half mile to the beach and fisherman's wharf. Great location!

Thank you for choosing the Casa Munras Hotel for your relaxing getaway. I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed your Concierge King Room, and our tapas restaurant Esteban. Next time you will have to complete the experience with a body treatment or facial at Sano Spa. Thanks again for your reccommendation.

Sincerely,

Loved the Spanish hacienda style of the hotel & particularly the great outdoor areas around open fire places. With just one night to explore Monterey it was great to be able to walk to the waterfront & the pier.

Thank you so much for staying and for your review. I am very pleased to hear that you felt the Spanish Hacienda influences while staying here at Casa Munras. As you may already be aware, Casa Munras was originally the residence of the last Spanish diplomat to California Don Esteban Munras back in 1824. There also are a number of other historic buildings along Montereys Path of History just steps from the hotel. Please come back and see us again.

We really enjoyed our stay recently and look forward to our next visit. The room was cozy and comfortable. The pillows were amazing... Would love to know what kind they are to get some for home! We also loved swimming in the heated pool, perfect even in the rainy weather.

Thank you for your recent stay. I am so happy to hear that you are already looking forward to your next stay at Casa Munras. Our pool is nice and toasty year round so I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the rainy weather. Thank you for mentioning how much you enjoyed our pillows. They are part of our Featherborne bedding package, which I completely agree is amazing. If you're like me and you want to bring them home with you we'd be happy to help. Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email and I can give you some more information.

We spent two nights at Casa Munras in June while traveling along the central coast. This is an older two-story hotel in downtown Monterey. Our room was somewhat musty at first, it seemed like it may have been closed up since the previous summer. The décor was strictly stuck in the nineties, but otherwise the room was very large, quiet, and comfortable. We enjoyed the bar/tapas restaurant and the happy hour specials. Although small, the pool area, and the patio adjoining the tapas bar were very inviting after being out and about in Carmel and Cannery Row.

Thank you for your stay back in June and for your review. I am happy to hear that you considered out hotel a good value, and that you found our location convenient. Additionally, thank you for visiting our tapas restaurant Esteban. We hope you will come back and stay with us again. I suggest trying the spa next time as well, it really adds to the experience especially after a day of sight seeing.

When we arrived they upgraded us to a king with fireplace. Everything was clean and very comfortable, service friendly and accommodating. If not for the rain we would have enjoyed the pool and their rental bicycles. We would come back.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you were able to enjoy our cozy fireplace room on a rainy day. Rainy days are also good opportunities to visit Sano day Spa here at the Casa Munras. They have some great skin and body treatments designed to fight the havoc winter weather can cause. Please come stay with us again so you can take that bike ride you mentioned.

We stayed here for one night on the way up the coast to San Francisco. The best thing about the hotel is the location, easily reached off the main highway, 5 minutes in the car to the 17 mile scenic drive and a few minutes walk into the centre of Monterey / Fisherman's Wharf. Our Cozy Queen room was basic but was very clean and as advertised, the check in staff were very helpful and talked us through a map of the local area when we arrived. A really good hotel for an overnight stay.Try the Wild Plum Cafe opposite - we took a picnic brunch from there to the 17 mile drive and had a lovely morning.

The hotel has historical significance for the area but provides a very basic hoteling experience. The rooms are very small and have poor ventilation. After a shower the humidity builds up so badly you have to open the door for a while to get the room to clear. The lighting is poor in the room and the bathroom is clean but tiny and very basic. If you are looking for a comfortable one night stay this may be OK but it is not the best value for the money.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear about the humidity issue in the bathroom during your stay and for the affect that this had on your experience. To your point about the bathroom being basic, we have a number of different room option with bathrooms of varying sizes. While our Cozy Queen room is very small, our deluxe rooms are significantly larger. We would love to have you stay with us again and perhaps experience one our our more deluxe room options. Should you like to discuss your stay any further please feel free to contact me.
