“Pick another place...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

While this hotel is in a great location, there's not much more I can say about it. The room was a bit too small for a king bed and the table/chairs were crammed in. The room was clean and neat. I would look for another spot to spend the night. Just didn't get a very nice vibe from the place. There were old mattresses piled up outside our room and in the parking spot outside our room, there was a stash of used nails and screws.

To put this motel at the bottom of the list is a shame. While it is not #1 or even #10 in Monterey, it is not $150.00 a night either. I paid $49.00 + tax for one night. Mt room was clean but worn. The motel was quiet and comfortable. Do not put this motel down as quick as you would think. If all you are looking for is a quiet nightd sleep in a safe and comfortable motel give this place a chance. The staff was very nice and helpful.

Worst motel stay of my life! If there was a lower rating than poor-fair I would give it to this awful place! The owner/management (all family apparently) were not helpful at all. The people above us were SOOO LOUD that we couldn't sleep - could happen anywhere - BUT HERE the management didn't do anything about it!! We called them 3 times and they did nothing about it. Not only could I not sleep but the room was old looking and dingy - it had a weird smell to it. The shower dripped and the window was cracked. There was no safety lock on the door either! The air conditioner/heater only heated the area next to the heater so the second bed (further away from the heater) was cold. I don't know where they got the pictures from that you can see online - it didn't look anything like that. We actually left 2 hours after we checked in (at midnight we packed the car and my kids up) and went to stay at a real hotel. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Worst motel ever!! Don't waste your $

The room was neat and clean, but had a slight stench to it. Also, at least in the room I was in, the hair dryer was not working, there was no ironing board for the iron, and there was no soap bar for the shower. I know it's a budget hotel, but even budget hotels should have all their amenities working. On the positive side, all the TV channels worked and the Wi-Fi connection was decent. If you're looking for a quick overnight stay for a low price, this is a good place, otherwise, you may want to spend a few more bucks and look elsewhere. Front Desk service was average, just did their job. Breakfast selection pretty spartan, just milk, cereal, coffees, toast, and muffins.

We are glad that we only stayed one night at the Econo Lodge Monterrey during our California travels. To say the front desk was surly does injustice to surly. When we went into our room, it was on the end right by the road – room 110. There was black mold on the shower door and torn curtains. Unpleasant, mismatched, cheap furniture and local information in the room dated to 2004. Oh, it also looks the headboard of the bed had been pounded against so much that you could see where the heads had been hitting it – see pictures. When we asked the front desk if there was another room, we were told no rooms were available. However, we called from the room using our cell phone and were told that yes they had rooms available. Recommend that you stay away from this establishment.

Room Tip: Just stay away find another hotel to stay at.

We stayed only one night. Our room was the last one at the very top of the hill, so parking was a bit akward. But for around $70 it was a good deal. The room was clean and so was the bathroom. If your looking to do Monterey on the cheap, nothing fancy, you should go for it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room thats not up there huge hill!

Don't ever stay here no matter how low the rates are. The beds and pillows are hard, the tv doesn't work, nor does the hot water, the fridge and heater run all night long and the walls are so thin I can hear it every time my neighbor farts, snores or coughs. It is literally the worst hotel/motel experience I've ever had. My room is missing the light bulbs because some tweaker no doubt stole 'em and the lobby reeks of Indian food. I thought $40 a night was a steal, I'd have slept better under a park bench.

Room Tip: don't stay here....anywhere but here!!!!!!!!
