Ok, first the good things:

I liked the room and a little kitchenette area that was separated from the room by a partial wall. The kitchennette had a small fridge, a microwave and a sink, as well as a table with two 2 chairs. Lots of sun in the kitchenette area because of the big window/ balcony (nice!)

Negative things:

1) The bathtub and especially the toilet were not very clean, the bathtub was scratched.
2) The people at the reception are not particularly friendly (not rude, though). There were not always around - I had to wait for 15 minutes to check out next morning - the receptionist (the owner?) went to walk her dog!! She did not even apologize for making me and 3 other people wait, even after I confronted her about it.
3) The walls ARE thin, but I think it is the problem with most motels.
So basically, I'd stay again if the owners/receptionist were friendlier, and the bathroom were cleaner.

“better than expected”

Quality Inn Monterey - Fremont Street

Sep 9, 2007

This was our first try along the line of budget hotels on Freemon St. by Monterey Bay, and it ended up being a good choice. The room was spacious and clean, well decorated & well lit, with a balcony, kitchenette, and comfortable king-sized bed, all for a very competitive price for a last-minute booking. The front desk was kind and accommodating, and were available even late at night when we discovered some electrical issues in the room and they had to upgrade us to a larger suite, on the spot, at no additional charge. They even threw in a wonderful continental breakfast, better than most I've seen at fancier hotels. This is worth the stay for a night or two in the area, and very affordable. Great quality for the price, I thought.

We stayed in room 202. The noise was horrendous. There is a gap at the bottom door jamb that lets in light, sound and God knows what else. We were lying in bed around midnight, and someone walked by talking. It jarred me because it was as if they were standing IN the room. We may as well have had the windows open. It was clean, but the decor is mismatched. The wallpaper is obivoualy covering nails, nail holes and severe wall damage. The papering job was tacky and amateur. They sliced around a light switch, measured badly, then patched the gaps with scraps of wallpaper. We only got two bath towels and we showered more than once and had to use wet towels. The mattress pad kept bunching up under the sheets whenever I would turn over in my sleep. The TV remote wasn't even the correct one. The TV was a Panasonic, and the remote was a Phillips. It didn't work. Forget about getting any work done in this room. The chairs aren't worth sitting in at the table and the bed really didn't work as a desk. The ventilation wasn't very good. They had no diet sodas to purchase, only Coke and Pepsi. I can't have sugar -- I am sure I am not the only one. There was an ice machine at the other end of the corridor, but no vending machines. Breakfast was just one rung above school cafeteria delight. At least the school gives out hot food. This was Continental, and they had no bagels -- only cheap wheat bread, sawdusty Otis Spunkmeyer muffins, sugary cereal -- nothing I'd call healthy. Milk. Fake OJ, and the coffee was gone when I got there around 8:20. You'd think if they've got milk out for the cereal, putting out a little half and half for the coffee could be done. Stay someplace else. Spend another couple of bucks and get something a little nicer and a LOT more comfortable. With what they charge people in the high season, they could update this place a little more thoroughly. The staff wasn't rude, but they also weren't eager to help. Sour-faced and lazy.

“Military Stay Away!!”

Quality Inn Monterey - Fremont Street

BAD cancellation policy!! I am in the Army and wanted to visit San Francisco/Monterey. We were told this was good location. My mission was changed and had to cancel same day. They say there is a 48 hour policy and would charge anyway. My boss says stay - so the trip is cancelled, but I still had to pay for the room. VERY bad service and no help to our military members. DONT GO!!

“Family with 4 kids”

Quality Inn Monterey - Fremont Street

We stayed here for two nights on our trip up the coast with two teenagers, a nine-year-old, and a four-year-old. We went to the aquarium in the morning and Carmel for dinner and some walking around.
This hotel is extremely easy to find from the highway! It's located with most of the other hotels in a bussinessy area. The only thing is that you need to get back on (for less than five minutes) if you want to go down the aquarium or cannery row. The signs are pretty self-explanatory.
We stayed in the two-room suite with three beds and one bathroom. It was on the second floor, which is a little rough with luggage and no elevators, but we managed. The carpets were dirty and turned your feet black, but I guess that's pretty common. The breakfast room was pretty convenient, and just that. Breakfast. The weird thing is that our keys stopped working twice in the time we stayed there. It was easy enough to fix, but it's hard to keep them away from cell phones and credit cards! This was a convenient hotel for a good price, but don't stay here if you consider yourself picky.
