“A hidden spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights to enjoy the Monterey peninsula etc. and what a great hidden place it was. First off the negatives: the place was a little confusing at first to find the room since the rooms aren't all connected. It seemed a little strange to have to use my room key to get in the main part of the hotel from my room. Also I stayed in one of the outer buildings and people could walk from the street to any of the rooms not in the main part of the hotel which seemed a little unsafe but having said that it was in a nice part of Monterey so crime I'm sure is low. Also there is a parking fee of $13 a day but considering you have to pay to park anywhere in the area it wasn't to bad and you can park there on the last day till 4P.M. Now the positives about the place was that almost every room had a balcony and mine was facing onto Foam St. with a little view of the water. Even with the street being busy I couldn't hear the traffic at all throughout the night. I surprised to see a fireplace (easy to use) in my room which was a great edition to have. The breakfast was the great service that all Best Western's have. It was in the main part of the hotel which made you feel like you were in a old Victorian home. The staff was very friendly and made me feel very welcome I would stay here again since almost all the hotels in the area cost upwards to $1,000 a night.

For the price you pay, you definitly got the best. The rooms are huge (standart king bed room) and beatifuly decorated. The hotel is 10 min walk from the Aquarium. We were very suprised cause we didn't know what to expect from Bw hotels. Pick this one, you won't be dissapointed!

We had a room on the second floor. There was a courtyard balcony and a fireplace. It was our honeymoon so they had some wine and chocolates waiting for us (very nice touch). The bed was comfy and the room was clean. The breakfast was decent (plenty of options) but we've been spoiled by breakfast at another hotel chain (ie. Drury Inn). We didn't take advantage of the wine and cheese hour (we aren't drinkers, and definitely not into wine). The staff was all nice and helpful. The parking is $13 a day (which I wish was included). The location is in easy walking distance to Cannery Row. The hotel is actually in New Monterey which is a little distance from Fisherman's Wharf but close to Pacific Grove.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem nice. But I hear the rooms on the top floor are the best because of the vaulted c...

We stayed here for 3 nights and were extremely pleased. I am an admitted hotel snob and this was my first time staying at a Best Western. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms had a great layout and while, not fancy, they had all the amenities we needed and were very clean. The morning breakfast was great and the staff was very friendly and helpful. This is a very convenient location to Cannery Row and the Aquarium. I would definitely recommend it and stay here again.

we stayed in this hotel for 2 night due to reviews we have seen here.
i can say that the hotel was way overpriced.
even thought they upgraded us (which was great) the hotel hotel seemed old.
the breakfast was ok, and the location as well.
i do not recommend the hotel for young couple like us.

IOM-ManagerResponse, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Victorian Inn, responded to this review, November 15, 2012
I want to thank this reviewer, first and foremost, for taking the time to share their feedback regarding their recent stay at our hotel. Such feedback is extremely important to us, as it presents the best opportunity for us to make improvements. I also want to thank this reviewer for their high ranking of our service staff; their dedication and hard work is much of what makes our hotel stand out, and I am very happy to share this feedback.

Though we would hope to make all of our guests feel comfortable and relaxed with the ambiance created by amenities such as gas fireplaces in every room and a complimentary wine and cheese reception in the afternoons, we are disappointed to hear that, despite this, our hotel fell short of this guest’s expectations. Please know that we are in the process of a multi-year update to the property; beginning in 2011, we have already replaced the mattress sets, and guest room light fixtures and patio furniture, as well as installed a top-of-the-line Wireless internet system. Thus far in 2012 we have upgraded all of our guest room desk chairs and bathroom mirrors, as well as installed 42”, flat-screen televisions above the every guest room fireplace. As the winter continues, we plan to upgrade night stands, headboards, lounge chairs, coffee tables, dressers, drapes, and décor in all of the rooms – and we hope that this guest will consider a return trip so that they can experience firsthand these and many other improvements.

Again, I want to thank this reviewer for taking the time to share their comments. Should anyone wish to speak with one of our managers directly, please do not hesitate to give us a call; we are always happy to speak with our current and future guests.

Thank you,
the General Manager

We just wanted to get away for the weekend and It turned out better than we expected. The weather was absolutely wonderful and the Victorian Inn turned out be a very pleasant experience. It may not be a five star rated hotel, but for the money it is hard to beat. It's only a couple of blocks from Cannery Row and other fine restaurants. There was no need to take our car out of the parking garage to have dinner the two nights that we stayed. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

This place was a little hard for us to find, because it is small, and it is up a block or two from other larger hotels. That turned out to be a good thing because we really liked the more residential feel of this hotel's location.

The front desk help was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and very nice. Our room was terrific. It was roomy, very nicely furnished, and it did have a working (and attractive) fireplace. You should consider opting for upstairs because things were a little close in and busy to use our patio, but we weren't in the room that much anyway. The bed was good with the usual cushy comforter and selection of pillows we've come to expect from Best Western.

The breakfast was served in a dining room type of setting. It was very small, and we shared our table with other guests. This was absolutely fine with us, but there may be some who would find this annoying. The selection was fine, and they did offer eggs and bacon.

It is not a far walk to Cannery Row and the ocean. And the price was fair. Be aware that, like most places in California, you have to pay to park, but it is a garage. There is window washing fluid and paper towels for your use right near the elevators. We thought this was a great addition! Thanks to whomever thought to do that.

Room Tip: Request upstairs. There's an elevator, plenty of luggage carts, and it will be more private if...
