“Good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

Recently stayed at this hotel, which is along the famous Cannery Row. Hotel is on the water and we enjoyed having our windows open overnight for the soothing sound of the waves. We had a "partial" ocean view as the shape of the building prevented our room from having the full sea view. Hotel is in great shape and service was excellent.

Stayed here for 2 nights for our anniversary and upgraded to the spa terrace room. The hotel is very nice and the spa area did look really nice. Our room was nice but for the price you pay it was really small and so was the terrace. The staff were friendly but it did depends who you spoke to. Some were really nice and couldn't do enough for you and others were a bit up themselves - particularly the restaurant booking staff. We booked a table in the morning for our anniversary dinner and we asked for a table by the window but when we got there it was right in the middle of the restaurant. But it seemed busy and they said there were bookings and would move us if they could so that's fine. Our waitress was fantastic and kept apologising (even though it wasn't her fault). The annoying part was as we sat there no one else really came to sit by the window and people left. So overall the hotel is nice with some fantastic staff but has become a bit full of itself. My advice would be to shop around to get better value for your money.

Positives
- Location, the views are stunning and it is right in the centre of Monterey
- Restaurant - the food and waiting staff here are fantastic, if you go as a four you may get a window seat!
- Bar, was really relaxing sitting out looking at the views

Negatives
- Rooms are pretty small
- Staff, some of the staff really don't seem to care

My husband and I enjoyed a long weekend in Monterey. The Hotel had fantastic views and all of the staff provided great service - whether it was at the front desk, restaurant or valet. The location is great and easy to walk around Cannery Row.

Room Tip: When getting a balcony room, be sure to request a higher floor or your sharing the balcony if on the...

We met a group of friends here for a 4 night get-together, and found it to be be just about perfect in every way. It has an open welcoming lobby, with an outdoor patio overlooking Monterey Bay, which is great for just sitting and watching the marine life. It is located at the east end of Cannery Row along the walking path, and just west of Fisherman's Wharf. We spent most of one day walking into and around the historic distrct which was most enjoyable. From this location you can leave your car parked and see the sights of Monterey without driving.

The hotel is spread over three buildings, and has a choice of ocean-view or land-view rooms at different prices. Our room was rightsized in perfect condition, and felt both luxurious and comfortable at the same time. The bathroom is similarly sized and has that Rojo marble on the floor and countertops, really very nice. The bed was new and great for sleeping, and it was perfectly quiet every night; we heard nothing from the hall or the outside to disturb us at all. I can heartily recommend this hotel which is also a good value for quality.

One night stay recently on a trip through California. This hotel was all we expected (and wanted it to be). The icing on the cake was the fact we had booked a sea view room, and in the bay perhaps 100 yards from our window was a full family of sea otters just 'chilling' in the sea. Wonderful to wake up to the sound of the sea and the sunrise over the ocean. The hotel provided binoculars for the room we were in (presumably each sea view room?) which was a nice touch. The concierge service was extremely helpful in recommending and booking a good quality restaurant at short notice, things were pretty full due to it being Mother's Day weekend in the US which we hadn't realised.

We had a wonderful stay at the Plaza. The rooms were spotless, the restaurants were great. We enjoyed the hot tub on the penthouse floor and the steam room. We were able to park the car and walk around the town. All in all the price wasn't horribly outrageous(for California), they just need to drop the resort fee.

We had a family getaway and could not have stayed at a better place! The service was amazing and the staff was so friendly and helpful. The ocean view room was serene and we loved hearing the bay wash up on the shore. Such a peaceful trip...we will for sure be back!
