After hearing about how wonderful the Monterey Bay Plaza Hotel was, I was very excited to spend my anniversary there with my husband. The hotel itself is nice, but the customer service was absolutely dreadful.
The staff didn't seem to think it was necessary to be friendly to their "younger" clientele (we're in our late 20's/early 30's). I was surprised at how abrupt and curt the front desk staff was when we were checking in and checking out. (I will admit the valet staff was very congenial- and we ended up tipping them well). They gave us a room that turned out to be above their delivery entrance and we were woken up each and every morning by the sounds of the delivery trucks driving in and beeping as they backed in. Also, our bathroom smelled strongly as though someone had burned rubber in it. I even went out and purcahsed a scented candle to see if it would help- it did not. Consequently, the lovely bathtub was not used for the relaxing bath I planned. When we asked to switch rooms, we were told there were no other rooms available. When I got home I wrote a letter to the manager and never heard back.
