“Great weekend getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

We stayed here for a relaxing weekend getaway. Great hotel with excellent and friendly service from everyone. The stay was a little pricey but worth every penny for a room over the water. The weather was nice enough to sleep with the window open to hear the waves crashing in all night; not to mention being able to watch the marine life in the bay play while the sun came up. Our stay wasn't really long enough to take full advantage of the Spa, but we plan to remedy that on our next trip. The fitness center in the Spa area was top notch as are the trails that run along Cannery Row - if you are a runner, there are plenty of options for a nice run any time of day.

Check your worries in the lobby because the staff at this hotel will take care of everything for you with lots of fun activities within walking distance.

Room Tip: Rooms with a balcony or ocean view are worth the extra money.

Very nice hotel right on the water and convenient walking to many parts of Monterey...wharf...aquarium....cannery row. Well appointed and excellent service. Close to beautiful Pacific Grove and the famous 17 mile drive to Pebble Beach and Carmel. Would highly recommend!

I knew from the helpfulness I'd already received when booking our rooms over e mail that this hotel was going to be worth paying that bit extra for. We'd decided between the Intercontinental and the Plaza but never received any response to our enquiries from the Intercontinental. The location of the Plaza turned out to be better too, both are on the bay but the Plaza was just a little further along towards fishermans wharf which was great as the road was a bit busy further up.
The staff were so helpful and friendly when we arrived, nothing was too much trouble during our stay. The rooms were great, spacious and very comfy beds. My only qualm was the quality of the ocean view balcony, we had a small balcony and our view was of the corner of the bay instead of out on the open sea, we'd got a deal on the room but if I'd been paying the full ocean view price I'd have wanted the full ocean view. Wouldn't consider staying anywhere else if going back to Monterey.

Great Hotel that my Hubby and I have been going to since we moved to Central California 8 years ago. Just first class. Spend the money and stay on the Bay Side. I love leaving the patio door open and listening to the surf and seals. Rooms and Suites are great. I have stayed on the " other side" and it just was not the same as the Bay Side. The restaurant is top's in my book. First thing I do after the unpack is hit Scooners! A long island is always refreshing on the deck with a salad or fish and chips!! Oh...Don't skip the spa. Every time I stay this is a must. Even the locals go to this spa instead of Pebble. This is such a great property. Many times for extended visits we always opt to rent a vacation home. This is one of those Grand Hotels we have yet to become tired of. I'm excited every time I pull up to the front door and always warmly greeted by attentive staff welcoming me back for another visit.
Thank You!
PS...buy one of the robes from the spa! They are yummy!

Room Tip: Stay on the Bay side with a patio. The Sound of the Sea is the best!

So yes, this is an expensive hotel and there are many other cheaper hotels to choose from however my motto is simple: If you’re going on vacation… then “Go On Vacation” and live a little. This hotel was a perfect choice for that sentiment.

With that said, here’s the deal; if you opt to spend the money to stay here you are rest assured to receive the following:

* A professional, courteous and very friendly staff.
* An immaculate room including a very comfortable bed
* A ideal location within walking distance to all the major sights
* A beautiful view of the bay which truly comes alive at night
* A room service menu that can’t be beat
* The ambiance of a beautiful hotel both inside and out
* An excellent coffee shop and bar
* Unbiased courteous staff treatment whether you're dressed in a 3-piece suit or jeans and a t-shirt (which is very cool, accolades)
* Prompt valet parking service which I’m typically not a fan of because you often have to wait forever for them to retrieve your car

If you would like to treat yourself to a luxurious stay, I would highly recommend the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa on every accord. In all honesty Monterey is a small town and you can easily take it all in in one day so with that as the case, why not live a little for an overnight excursion?

Cheers

A standard queen, non-ocean view room is $249.00 (March 2013) plus the mandatory $25.00 resort fee, plus $25.00 in taxes which brings the room to $300.00. This room as per the photo, is indistinguishable from any of the big chain hotels which are cookie cutter stale. There is no complimentary coffee in the lobby in the mornings. The employees are all above quality in their exuberance for their hotel and their ability to satisfy guests. The lobby is lovely.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet. In this city you don't spend much time in your room so go for the least exp...
