“Pebble Beach Golf & a Comfortable Room at the Monterey Plaza - How good can it get !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2011

We travelled from Australia for a San Fran conference and then went to teh Monterey Plaza to stay whilst playing golf at Pebble Beach. The Accommodation was fantastic and the service excellent after 5 hours of great golf. It was nice to be able to go back to a comfortable room with great views of the Peninsula and Fishing Village, together with the noise from the seals on the rocks and the crashing waves. Monterey is a beautiful part of the world and the stay at teh Monetery Plaza mad ethe whole experience that much more enjoyable - warm room, great bed, clean linen and large practical bathroom.

The food at breakfast and lunch and the tappas bar were excellent. For a first time visit we rated this stay at Monterey Plaza and enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Hello,
Let me say it might not be advisable to stay at an excellent B&B the night before you stay at a hotel with a reputation such as the Monterey Plaza. We were a bit exhausted, it was a family road trip and we also didn't really have time to explore or probably appreciate the hotel as much as we should have. We went from a personal touch to well a mega hotel that hits and misses with just such a thing. Mark in reservations helped secure the best inland balcony room possible, it had a view of the ocean at half the cost, not to mention he helped get the price down by $70. The valet, baggage handling and check in - all was standard you'd find at a normal hotel. The rooms were standard to nice as well. The beds were very comfortable, the tv was great. The bathroom was again standard, towels were coarse and hard and the toiletries were Motel 6 quality. We had a strange noise coming from within the walls, creepy, but eventually it went away. It was amazing though listening to the waves and seagulls, really soothing. And watching the sunrise from my bed was breathtaking. The more I write the more I appreciate my time there and I lighten up my criticisms. The hotel did miss things I enjoy though, Continental Breakfast, Accessible Coffee, a Pool but those things are forgivable. The coffee shop was a Peet's located just outside the hotel, so it was a little work to get it. I'd suggest eating somewhere other than the hotel restaurants, Schooners was pricey and the food subpar at best. We ordered room service (Chowder Bowls) and had to send it back because it was too salty. Being near the ocean is the most important aspect of the Hotel and this is the highlight as well, you can't ask for much more than what Monterey Plaza offers you. Stunning, gorgeous and majestic just outside your door. My thoughts, I'll give the hotel another shot at some point in the near future but for now I'll stick with B&B's.

thanks,
mz

Room Tip: Room 3333 is the best inland room with view

Living in the Bay area, my boyfriend and I jumped down for a quick "refresh" trip over Memorial Day. The accommodations were comfortable leaving us nothing to be desired, room service was probably the most prompt I have ever experienced and the food was top quality (although a little pricey but not by resort standards). The car service blew my boyfriends mind when they picked us up in a S550. The spa was receptive and welcoming even though I had no reservation they fit me in immediately. All the while, there were several weddings going on and the hotel was at full capacity. This place is top notch and we will be staying here for now on whenever we are in Monterey.

Room Tip: Ocean View only, use the rest on a massage!

This is a very nice hotel, well maintained, well decorated, comfortable room, good service, on site restaurant and spa. All these are necessary but not sufficient to make a room in this hotel worth $475 a night. What supposedly make it justifiable for the high price are two things: a view of Monterey bay from the room and an address on Cannery Row. I was expecting a nice view from the room and an option to walk out of the hotel and walk right in to busy activities of the Cannery Row. The hotel fall way short in delivering both.

In a way it is not really the hotel's fault. It is the bad planning and development of the area. Cannery Row used to be a concentration of sardine canning factory. A section of it had developed into a busy street with lot of restaurants, bars and shops. Monterey Plaza is two blocks away from this developed section and separated from this section by sadly deserted properties. On the other end along the Cannery Row, there is a ugly concrete old factory structure which filled 1/3 of the ocean view we got. What a waste of prime location.

While this hotel is not cheep in any sense of the word it is worth every penny.

As many on here have already said, the service is top notch. I think it was the service that made my stay feel so valuable.

Get an ocean view room and you'll be glad you did. I wouldn't pay the money to stay in this hotel if I didn't have an ocean view room. The rooms are not exceptional but if you have an ocean view room none of that will matter. I read a lot of reviews from people who complained about noise from their neighbors room or from down the hall...I don't know what they are talking about because I didn't have that issue at all. Maybe I was the one making the noise.

Stay here and stay more than one night...you'll be glad you did.

We attended a wedding reception at the hotel and decided to stay there. The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly and courteous. Great location to the sights and shopping. Had a great run on the Monterey Bay Recreation Trail. Breakfast was delicious at one of the hotel restaurants, the Duck Club. Overall, a very relaxing and pleasant stay. (FYI- Google maps can give you complicated directions to and around Carmel by the sea. I'm sure the hotel staff can give you the easiest route).
