“Romantic Charm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

If you are a romantic person and you like the Victorian 'Laura Ashley' look, you will fall in love with this gem like my 18 yr old and I did on a weekend stay. Staff are very welcoming and it feels like coming home. The room is so comfortable, with a bay window, working fireplace and 'grandma's feather bed!' Ideally located by the ocean and just steps away from restaurants and shops on Cannery Row and Monterey Aquarium. Free wifi, but you have to pay for valet parking - $21 per day.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main street are quite noisy - so they kindly moved us to a higher floor which was b...

The Spindrift is my go-to local hotel for a "me getaway" or a little romance and the only place relatives will stay when visiting the Monterey area. You are greeted with a smile and concierge services are excellent. Wine and cheese reception every evening and breakfast delivered to your room are added bonus. The rooms are charming and all have fireplaces... Can't go wrong with bay view or overlooking Cannery Row. Very convenient location too. Staff is very accommodating and you will feel welcome. Highly recommend this hotel!

Cannot more highly recommend this hotel. Stayed here for our 1 year anniversary based on Trip Advisor reviews and could not have been happier. This sweet hotel is definitely a boutique hotel with cozy, old school elegant decor. Walking in you are greeted by the wonderful staff and a small lobby with a fireplace.

First of all, the staff was Phenomenal. They were SO helpful right from the get-go. Amy and Marlene on the front desk staff were awesome. Amy set up a reservation for our one year at Chart House down the street and thanks to her reservation she got us a complimentary lava cake. Will and Tim the valets were also great. Both were so kind and helpful. Will always greeted us kindly when he got our car. Tim helped us figure out the best route to the SF airport on our last night.

The room.. It was PERFECT. We had a room on the 4th floor on the Oceanfront side and it was so worth the extra money for oceanfront. The room was so cozy. The bed was immediately inviting, with the fluffy down bedding. But my favorite aspects were the fireplace and the window. There was a bay window seat looking out over the ocean with windows that pushed out so that we could hear the waves crashing on the shore. (And they have binoculars that you can use in the room too!!) And the fireplace is a wood burning fireplace. We LOVED coming back to our room, spending time by the fire and sleeping with a fire burning in the fireplace and the windows open hearing the ocean. Could not have been more cozy and romantic.

The wine/cheese hour in the afternoon was great. It was nice to come back to the hotel after sightseeing and unwind with wine and cheese (you were welcomed to more than one glass). We took ours up to our room and sat by our fireplace. SO GREAT.

The location was nice too, being right on Cannery row. Many restaurants right there and a short walk to the Aquarium. The breakfast isn't anything special, but it was good. And it was a treat to have breakfast brought to the room on a silver tray. We really enjoyed that. (Also our last morning we had to leave before breakfast... the staff was so kind as to pack us 2 little lunch bags with a few breakfast items for our early morning drive to the airport. So nice).

We had such a great experience at this hotel. We would definitely stay here again and most definitely recommend it to others (especially if it is for an anniversary or something like that).

Room Tip: Definitely go for the Oceanfront rooms. SO worth it. The oceanfront window is a window seat, where...

I may be a little biased in my review as this is my hands down favorite hotel of all time! I can't say I've done that much traveling & usually travel more budget minded, so I haven't stayed in that many upper end Hotels, but have had wonderful experiences at the Spindrift.

First of all, I love Inns like these where the rooms don't really look like hotel rooms. I'm a sucker for the old school romantic look & Spindrift does it right. One feature that really sets this hotel apart are the bay window/window seats....especially if you are lucky enough to stay on the Bay side.

On our last stay my husband & I had a bay side room and got the pleasure of sitting in the window & watching the Parade of Lights. The parade is a few weeks before Christmas & all the sailboats decked out in Christmas lights sail down the bay.

We left our bay window open our whole stay because we couldn't resist the ocean breeze & sound of the lapping waves. It was cold, but that was easily remedied by a nice fire in the fire place.

The beds at the Spindrift are to die for! Down mattress covers, down comforter & pillows make this bed hard to get out of. Rarely do we get such a wonderful nights sleep in a hotel.

The service was perfect even though we didn't need much. Of course the maid service was great, as was the continental breakfast served to our room in the morning. I love that too! Most hotels that offer breakfast with the room make you come down to the common room, Spindrift brings it to you, which is nice because you can enjoy the comfort & privacy of your room! You fill out a card the night before with what you want & leave it on the door. Perfect!

Rooms at the Spindrift are large, so you don't feel like you are getting claustrophobic!

I wish I could stay at the Spindrift more often, but for us it is a treat. I honestly cannot think of one negative thing to say about this hotel. My husband & I have had wonderful anniversary memories there as well as Monterrey entirely.

Room Tip: The extra money for the bay side rooms are well worth it!

My husband, myself, and a couple of my friends stayed at this great hotel. My husband and I stayed in a corner ocean view room. The views were great. I LOVED the bay windows we had in our room. They even had binoculars for you to use. Also, we loved using the wood-burning fireplace. It was pouring down rain that night so it was an awesome way to unwind. The bed was pretty comfortable. You cannot beat the location of this hotel as it is right on Cannery Row. The service was excellent at this hotel. The complimentary continental breakfast was okay but cannot complain because it was free. We plan to stay here whenever we come to Monterey.

The Cannery Row location is both a blessing and a curse depending on what side of the hotel you choose. The ocean side is priced at a premium. The street side is discounted, not only because of the view but because of the noise.

Be ready for the bar music until past eleven thirty. And the morning will bring the sound of the city crew emptying the trash at six AM. The bright lights will also stay on all night so close the curtains. On the other hand, if you like people watching instead of wildlife watching this is the choice.

The free continental breakfast and afternoon wine treats are a great bonus.

The room decor has the pleasant look of a European hotel. It may not appeal to the Modernist traveler but it is amazing how cozy and comfortable it can feel after a walk in the damp and cold weather.

The free wi-fi is solid for the most basic of net demands. It can handle a livestream broadcast with some occasional re-buffering. The download speed maxed out at 100kb/sec. Use your own wi-fi hotspot for heavy-duty downloads.

The hotel is one block away from the Aquarium and ten minutes from the Wharf. The municipal garage is across the street on Wave. Same with the recreation trail.

There are few shortcomings for this boutique hotel. The excellent service and prime spot are reasons enough to make the Inn a regret-free experience.

Room Tip: Cannery row view for people watching. Pacific ocean view for wildlife watching.

This was our second time staying at the Spindrift, and each time we have been treated as if we were special. All staff were exceptionally kind and courteous, close to shopping and fine dining. Whether wondering through the shops or sitting and watching the marine life in the bay, you cannot beat the location or service. Was nice to wonder on the roof top garden to relax and get a larger view of the bay and surrounding towns.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are larger, but the view is priceless!
