The Cannery Row location is both a blessing and a curse depending on what side of the hotel you choose. The ocean side is priced at a premium. The street side is discounted, not only because of the view but because of the noise.

Be ready for the bar music until past eleven thirty. And the morning will bring the sound of the city crew emptying the trash at six AM. The bright lights will also stay on all night so close the curtains. On the other hand, if you like people watching instead of wildlife watching this is the choice.

The free continental breakfast and afternoon wine treats are a great bonus.

The room decor has the pleasant look of a European hotel. It may not appeal to the Modernist traveler but it is amazing how cozy and comfortable it can feel after a walk in the damp and cold weather.

The free wi-fi is solid for the most basic of net demands. It can handle a livestream broadcast with some occasional re-buffering. The download speed maxed out at 100kb/sec. Use your own wi-fi hotspot for heavy-duty downloads.

The hotel is one block away from the Aquarium and ten minutes from the Wharf. The municipal garage is across the street on Wave. Same with the recreation trail.

There are few shortcomings for this boutique hotel. The excellent service and prime spot are reasons enough to make the Inn a regret-free experience.

This was our second time staying at the Spindrift, and each time we have been treated as if we were special. All staff were exceptionally kind and courteous, close to shopping and fine dining. Whether wondering through the shops or sitting and watching the marine life in the bay, you cannot beat the location or service. Was nice to wonder on the roof top garden to relax and get a larger view of the bay and surrounding towns.

My husband and I stayed here last weekend for part of our honeymoon...what a treat! A perfect blend of ocean cottage and classic elegance. All staff members we encountered were friendly, professional, and accommodating. The hotel had a bottle of champagne on ice in the room upon our arrival with a post card congratulating us on our marriage. Our room was on the 2nd floor facing Cannery Row and we took full advantage of having drinks on our good-sized balcony while people-watching. The in-room fireplace is WONDERFUL; set a very romantic tone. Very comfortable bed and having Directv was an unexpected surprise. In-room continental breakfast was a nice touch, especially since we don't usually make it out of bed in time for breakfast on our vacations. ;-)

The only negative I can think of is the road work across the street was too audible in our room, waking us up in the early morning hours (it had rained significantly the few days prior). But that would likely not be an issue for any other trip to this hotel.

We will definitely make this our hotel of choice when visiting Monterey in the future-- our anniversary destination! Thank you, Spindrift Inn!

Staff was helpful and courteous. The rooms with wood burning fireplaces are very romantic and the beds are soft and so comfortable you don't want to get up! Its within walking distance of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
