My family and I recently stayed two nights at the Ramada Limited in Monterey, CA. Our Thursday/Friday stay squeezed more from our wallet than most of our other motel stays, but we visited during the peak summer season and most other motels and hotels in the area are comparably priced, if not significantly more expensive.
As with many of the hotels in Monterey, the Ramada Limited is an older motel that has been updated to give it a clean, comfortable, modern feel, with the occasional creak in the floor as one of the few reminders of its vintage. Our two-queen-bed room included amenities such as a mini refrigerator and microwave, a hair dryer, and wireless Internet access. Curiously, the Internet access is poorly promoted, and I had to call the front desk to find out whether it was even available. If you have a laptop with wireless capability, call the front desk for the userid and password required to log in.
The Continental breakfast included with the room rate is modest but not skimpy. In addition to the standard fare of bagels, pastries, and bread, choices include hot waffles, cold cereal, fresh fruit, and three kinds of juice. The dining area is a bit small and tends to fill up, but we were able to find a table during both mornings of our stay.
The motel is located near an airport, and planes passed directly overhead every fifteen minutes or so until about 10PM. However, the dual-paned windows on the room greatly reduced exterior noise, and we did not find the airplane noise a problem.
Two issues that we had during our stay: no one answers the front desk line when dialed through the motel's voicemail system; however, a direct call to the on-duty manager was answered quickly. Also, the cold water tap in our room often ran hot unless we ran it for thirty seconds or so. This may have been an issue only with our room, and we learned to work around it.
Having read the reviews of this motel prior to our reservation, I was wary of what we would find when we arrived. But our personal experience did not match the negative experiences described in some reviews. All-in-all, we found the hotel clean and comfortable, a worthwhile value, and would consider it for a future stay.
