“Convienience, courtesy & atmosphere justify extra cost”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

Recent trip to Monterey for scuba diving certifacation, and even though I took some ribbing from friends about the cost of my room, a lot of it was jealousy. Having a fresh breakfast delivered to my room in the mornings and the staffs willingness to accomadate my early morning needs (breakfast not normally delivered before 0700, I needed 0600 to meet my group by 0730) justified the higher cost to me. Being able to sit in a hot tub after diving in the ocean in Jan. was also no small plus. The evening turn down service makes you feel like you are staying in a much fancier hotel and even though the city of Monterey dosen't seem to acknowledge the value of scuba divers visiting the city, the staff here was friendly, understanding and helpful. Oh and almost forgot to mention, fresh cookies in the afternoon are really nice after an active afternoon.

We felt pampered and indulged from the start. The wide cushy bed facing the sea gave a perfect view of visiting birds and the changing colors of sky and lights falling over the surf. The bed and room was roomy and comfy. Staff was friendly and helpful; even minor requests were met with a prompt response (like getting change!). In-house coffee maker and morning breakfast service got the day off to a good start.
The location is perfect, the bay and Monterey an easy walk in one direction, and Cannery Row just outside the door; Pacific Grove and Carmel only a few miles down the road.
I would love to return at any time of year!

We are finishing up a 2 night stay and wanted to write my review asap! We could not have been happier with our stay here. Got a great rate on AAA of $129 per night. We are in room #301 - I think this is considered a "park view" room. We have a nice balcony and great view of the San Carlos Beach Park and the gorgeous harbor. Yes, they charge $15 for parking and $10 per 24 hour Internet access but it is still a great value. A lovely continental breakfast is delivered to your room at your time preference and included coffee, juice, muffins, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fresh fruit. The room is very very comfortable. The king bed outstanding. Nice sitting area with 2 chairs and coffee table and desk. The bathroom is gorgeous! Two sinks and lots of storage cabinets and counter space. Wish I had that bathroom at home! The hotel is located at the end of Cannery Row next to the Monterey Plaza Hotel. No problem walking to the other end where the Aquarium is. We will definitely stay here again when we return to beautiful Monterey!

Our room looked out over the ocean and we loved listening to the waves crash on the rocks below our window. From both our bed and balcony we watched sea otters, sea lions, dolphins, and seabirds play in the waves off the beach. We also enjoyed watching the different boats come and go from the harbor nearby. It was by far our best experience in over 10 years.

The room was beautifully appointed and much nicer than what we are accustomed to staying at. The room was spacious and well laid out and then was very comfortable.

This place had it all. Great location, extremely beautiful & comfortable rooms; but our favorite was our view. The binoculars in the room enabled us to watch amazing sea life: otters, seals, whales, & birds. We decided not to go to the Aquarium because we didn't need to. Our balcony and the binoculars were far better!

If you are looking for a special place in Monterey to get away from it all. Look to the Monterey Bay Inn. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms and views are awesome! We spent Christmas there as we have for the past few years. As always, it is a perfect spot to rest and regroup. The rooms are cozy with either full ocean or harbor views. A plus for nature lovers is that a large number of sea otters have settled on a kelp bed not far from the hotel so watching them can be a real treat. One hint, if you are staying there in the winter, bring slippers. The bathroom floor is marble and can get pretty cold!

This hotel is older but has been renovated nicely. The rooms are spacious and decorated tastefully. Harbor view rooms are cheaper and I personally like the view as there is more to see than the straight ocean view (which is still great and more private). It is a bit of a walk to the center of Cannery Row, but still pretty close. The hotel next door (Monterey Plaza) has a great place to eat downstairs called "Schooners".
Nice people, nice hotel. We will return.
