Recent trip to Monterey for scuba diving certifacation, and even though I took some ribbing from friends about the cost of my room, a lot of it was jealousy. Having a fresh breakfast delivered to my room in the mornings and the staffs willingness to accomadate my early morning needs (breakfast not normally delivered before 0700, I needed 0600 to meet my group by 0730) justified the higher cost to me. Being able to sit in a hot tub after diving in the ocean in Jan. was also no small plus. The evening turn down service makes you feel like you are staying in a much fancier hotel and even though the city of Monterey dosen't seem to acknowledge the value of scuba divers visiting the city, the staff here was friendly, understanding and helpful. Oh and almost forgot to mention, fresh cookies in the afternoon are really nice after an active afternoon.
