“Nice hotel--Extra charges not so nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2010

My wife and I just returned from a two-week road trip along the Washington, Oregon, and California coast. We stayed in a range of hotels, B&Bs, and motels with a range of rates and services. The Monterey Bay Inn was the most expensive place we stayed and the only one that charged extra for parking and wifi access. This is a very nice hotel, and probably one of the most reasonably priced in the immidiate area. However, I think management should consider increasing the room rate slightly and providing parking and wifi at no additional cost.

We usually don't stay at this level of hotel because of the cost, but for a special anniversary we decided to try it. We were glad we did! The service was outstanding, including the desk staff, housekeeping, room service and other amenities. One of their selling points was a continental breakfast delivered to our room each morning at the time we specified with the items we had ordered the night before -- B&B with complete privacy! Rooms have either a Bay view or a Park view (with slight views of the Bay but focused on the beach park next door). . We had a Park view room and enjoyed watching people (and Canada Geese) during the day, while appreciating complete privacy when we wanted it. The bed and other furniture were comfortable. The hotel isn't as close to Fisherman's Wharf or the Monterey Bay Aquarium as other hotels, but both are within walking distance or a short drive. For those who don't want to walk and don't want to pay for parking at the Aquarium, there's a city-sponsored trolley that will take you there. Binoculars are provided for each room, so guests can watch for Bay wildlife more easily. Room service is provided by the first class restaurant in the much more expensive hotel 300 yards away. We decided to enjoy our first night by ordering clam chowder in a bread bowl and salad -- excellent fare without leaving our room! There are two spas, one on the roof overlooking the Bay. No pool, but who cares about that when the high is in the 60s or 70s in July? There are two first class restaurants and two inexpensive restaurants close by and many others within a short distance. Altogether, this is a great place for a three or four night getaway in a tourist and nature-lover's paradise. We highly recommend it and will return in the future.

we spoke with the hotels reservation agent and got a 2 rooms for 2 nights
the next day they called me and asked me why i had not check out yet.

we then realized they had given us the rooms for only 1 night

they made us pay extra to stay until my daughters nap was over

had to find accomodations elsewhere for the next night

what i think happened is that they got the rooms booked for a higher rate prior to me arriving and changed the dates of the reservation. its always about the money.

We loved the Monterey Bay Inn........After doing a lot of research on hotels and Inn's around Monterey, I decided to surprise my girlfriend with a few nights in Monterey and chose the MBI. Although it's not the fanciest or the most beautiful hotel on the Bay, it's pretty darn close. The few things that we absolutely loved was the location. It's at the end of Cannery Row, but probably a 5-10 minute walk to all the touristy shops and restaurants and the Aquarium. We liked that it was in the quieter part of the strip. Our room was extremely comfortable. We did not have the ocean view, but we had a Bay View which was as nice. The bed was amazing, and sleeping with the door open and waking up to the sounds of the Monterey sea life was awesome. As dining in Monterey is obviously not cheap, one of the draws to this hotel was the breakfast that was included. We were able to order coffee, juice, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit etc and having it delivered at the exact time of our choice in the morning, was such a nice touch and a great way to get our day started. Also the hottub on the 4th floor overlooking the ocean right down from our room was a great way to end our days.
The staff were great and were happy to help us with reservations at local restaurants, we will definitely come back here next time we were in Monterey.

Celebrated our anniversary by staying July 18. I would highly recommend this hotel. We were in room 408 with a terrific view of the harbor, beach and bay. Loved the decor, the in-room coffee maker and beautiful bath with robes. They surprised us with a bottle of wine and box of chocolates for our anniversary. After parking in the hotel garage yesterday we never used the car. Walked to shopping and to a great dinner at the Sardine Factory. This morning they delivered coffee, muffins, bagels, fruit, juice that were all wonderful. A seagull must know the routine as he appears on our balcony at the same time as the arrival of our breakfast. He waited until we feed him and even talked to us. Then a few pigeons joined him. It made our morning. Already trying to figure out when we can go back. Wonderful hotel, great service, and location.

If you want the ambiance and views of Monterey Bay but don't need the restaurants, bars and exercise facilities this is the hotel for you. Monterey Bay Inn is about a half block from the Monterey Bay Plaza - a full-service 5-star hotel with a nice outdoor restaurant.

The location is on the water but at the end of Cannery Row so aside from the wildlife right outside your window it is quiet and as close to the bay as you can get.

The rooms are recently renovated, clean and quiet. The bed was new and the bedding first class. The TV is not flat screen but you get a wide selection of channels.

Parking is extra as is internet.

We had a bay view room with fireplace and it was very large and the gas fireplace was a nice touch.

The continental breakfast delivered to the room every morning was a real treat.

With the Monterey Bay Inn you get a very comfortable room far enough away from the crowds to be quiet.

This hotel is not bad, but it's worse than we expected given the price it took from TripAdvisor. It is quite far from the city centre, the people at the desk are quite rude, and the building is ugly. Furthermore, breakfast was very poor. We also had to pay for parking and internet connection.
