“My "go-to" destination in Monterey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

I have stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn 3 times now and will probably stay here again the next time I am in town. The rooms are nice, clean, and almost every one has a balcony that overlooks Monterey Bay.
This hotel is located on Cannery Row, a short walk to Fisherman's Wharf, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the historic downtown area... there are good bars and restaurants all around.

They offer a free continental breakfast delivered to your room in the morning... turn down service in the evening with chocolates!! :).. Two hot tubs.....

BUT.. the thing that sets this hotel apart is the fabulous staff.. friendly, helpful... doing everything in their power to make your stay a delight.

I hope to get back there soon...

Room Tip: Try to get the top floor...

Went here for my wife's birthday and we LOVED IT!! We had the oceanfront room on the 3rd floor and you could see forever!!! Loved hearing the ocean waves flowing in on the rocks and the seals talking away!!

Room Tip: Oceanfront room is more private. You could leave the blinds open and not be afraid someone is going...

large room, v clean with all you need and a massive tv. Breakfast is served to your room at a time you chose, no bar or restaurant. Many restaurants within walking distance, we were recommended the fish hopper which was fantastic. parking is $16 a day. Good clean hotel with views over the bay and we loved the binoculars in the room. very close to Carmel.

Room Tip: The side rooms / standard rooms still give a lovely view of the bay.

Stayed here in January 2014 while visiting family. The hotel is really convenient, easy to find, easy off street parking, easy check in. Our room was beautiful, large, huge bathroom, nice interior finishes. The view from the huge windows and balcony over the bay was amazing!

One of the best things about this hotel is the location. I was able to walk 2 minutes to rent a kayak to take out on the bay one morning, and the next morning I walked 3 minutes to rent a SUP (stand up paddleboard) and go out. There are two dive shops within a one minute walk from the hotel so if you are planning a trip to Monterey to dive this is a great location to stay. There are several great restaurants just a few minutes walk away as well.

Cannery Row is sort of a crowded tourist trap type place (I grew up here so I may be biased) so I was a little apprehensive about staying here. This hotel is on the quiet end of cannery row and I was pleasantly surprised.

I will definately stay here next time I come back to Monterey for a visit.

Room Tip: Oceanview rooms are a good value.

This property is one of our favorite hotels on the California's central coast. It is quaint, well kept and in a great location. The staff are very courteous and attentive. The room service and continental breakfast were both first class with a nice variety to choose from. The room rates are an exceptional value for the location and ambiance.

Room Tip: All the rooms have great views of the water

We stayed in a room overlooking the ocean. Had great views of whales, otters, harbor seals, sea lions, cormorants, egrets, gulls and terns. The hotel provided nice binoculars. We were within easy walking distance of cannery row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Fisherman's Wharf. They had a very nice continental breakfast delivered to the room at the time we requested.

The first time I stayed at the Monterey Bay Inn I enjoyed my stay and decided that I would be back and would stay in one of the "Deluxe Oceanfront rooms with fireplace. However, this stay was slightly disappointing. The Good - The hotel is on Cannery Row so the location is perfect, the rooftop spa is very nice with great views. The inside of the room is very nice, large with a beautiful bathroom. The Bad - Even though I prepaid in full for an upgraded, deluxe, oceanfront room, I was disappointed with the location of my room. The hotel was not at capacity but the oceanfront room I was given was at the very end of the hotel near a staff utilities room. I could hear everything going on in that room and it was very loud early morning. The "gas fireplace" is not a real fireplace at all, is loud and does not produce any heat. The Ugly - next to the hotel is a lot of construction and an old run down port of some sort. My "oceanfront" room looked out to that old rusty port with the smells associated with it. If I had been placed closer to the middle of the hotel I would have had better views of the ocean. This room should be considered a partial ocean view room. "Deluxe Oceanfront room with fireplace is misleading. Unfortunately I will be looking at alternate accommodations the next time I stay in Monterey. :(

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room that is not near the left side of the hotel

Valerie D, Manager at Monterey Bay Inn, responded to this review, April 15, 2014
Thank you for taking the time to review the Monterey Bay Inn, as we truly value our customer feedback, especially repeat guests such as yourself. We were pleased to hear that you enjoyed your first stay so much that you returned and booked one of our Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms with Fireplace. While all of our Deluxe Oceanfront Rooms with Fireplaces have direct views of the beautiful bay, they also show the remnants of an old canning factory, out of the corner of the room. Due to the location of our property on historic Cannery Row there are several buildings in the area that serve as historical reminders of how Monterey came to be. Detailed history of many of the buildings can be read along your walk of Cannery Row and serve a gateway into the past. We are sincerely sorry if this happened to hinder your view in any way or if you felt our room description was misleading. We hope that you will continue to stay at the Monterey Bay Inn in the future and we will be given the opportunity to place you in a room that meets all your expectations.

Warmest Regards,

The Management of the Inns of Monterey
