“A Fine Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

This hotel does not feel like a typical Hilton Garden Inn, I don't know if it was built by a different chain and then acquired, but it had a very different and even dated feel. That said, the rooms were nice enough and the staff was friendly. One minor problem was the small check in desk (waited a while to check in even as HHonors Gold, but no more than 10 minutes). The breakfast was very good with cooked to order omlets, hashbrowns, etc. Overall no major complaints, the hotel suited our needs well.

Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel, we appreciate your comments. The hotel was not built as an HGI so it does have a different feel. We are beginning a renovation in early December, 2012, to change the dated feel to one more current, so we encourage you to return and see if you like the new look better! We apologize for you having to wait at check-in but glad to hear that you really enjoyed our breakfast and friendly staff.

We have stayed at the Marriott twice and switched to this place as the Marriott can be a bit hectic when it's full, particularly if there's something happening at the Convention Center

We spent three nights here, at about $220 per night including breakfast and were very satisfied. To be sure, you don't get the valet parking and porterage of the Marriott, but you don't pay for it either. The people running the hotel are professional and pleasant. There's ample parking space here, and if you want access to the freeway to get out of Monterey easily, it's close by

Monterey is full of restaurants, and we did not try the one at the hotel, except for breakfast. This was excellent and, at $14.95, you would not want to look elsewhere to save pennies

Although we were on the ground floor and next to a stairwell and there was a wedding party in the building, noise levels were acceptable

We appreciate your complimentary review and thank you for switching over from the Marriott to Hilton Garden Inn. I will pass along to our staff that you experienced them as professional and pleasant. I will also let the chef know you had an excellent breakfast with us, hopefully you tried our croissant French toast!! We hope you return again soon.

Stayed one night to break up our journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Room was basically furnished but was clean and comfortable. The hotel has one restaurant open limited times. We had dinner there upon our arrival, the menu had some variety and the food was good and reasonably priced for the area. As a Hilton Gold cardholder I am entitled to free breakfast which we had the following morning. Breakfast was good and cooked fresh to order. Had I been paying for this I would have thought it good value for the $14.95 cost.

Hotel also has a pool and spa pool which we didn't use.

We appreciate your positive comments about our "nice little hotel" being clean and comfortable. We will pass along your compliments to our food service staff about your good breakfast and dinner experiences. Next time here try the Croissant French Toast for breakfast!

The staff here are among the friendliest we've ever encountered. They gladly provided recommendations for tours, restaurants, etc. They gave great directions. Parking is free and they have a coin operated laundry facility. The location is about 2.5 miles from the aquarium and other attractions, which was about a 50 minute walk for us.
The only improvement I recommend is adding a safe to each room so we can lock our valuables. The rooms are a little worn and outdated, but okay.

We appreciate your review and compliments about our friendly helpful staff. And for letting us know we need to update our rooms. The guest room renovation will be completed in early 2013 so all the guest rooms will be fully refreshed! Although we do not have safes in each room we do have safe deposit boxes at the front desk for your valuables for the next time you stay with us. Thanks again for your "Great Staff" comments.

This is an excellent hotel only a 10 minutes walk from the beach and 15 minute walk to downtown of Fishermans Wharf. Our room was large, the beds the most comfortable ever and breakfast a delight. Add to that the central heated pool and well equipped fitness center. This is a reasonably priced hotel and we would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for pool facing room.

This was one of the three HGIs we booked during our drive trip from southern cal to SF, and it was one of the better ones despite a plumbing breakdown during the 2-day stay. The other two hotels were also HGIs at Pismo Beach and Emeryville, latter was the worst experience ever. The staff here were extremely nice and provided us with places to see and eat. The room was clean and well-equipped. We liked the balcony vry much. Breakfast buffet was great and staff accommodating. Would definitely use this hotel again.

Thanks for your "Nice Room and Staff" review as well as your positive comparison to 2 other HGI's. We apologize for the plumbing issue and are thrilled that it did not affect your stay with us. I will tell our chef/kitchen staff your compliments as well as the other "extremely nice" staff. We hope you take another drive up the coast and stay with us again soon.

This hotel is a little hard to find and you must have a car. It is about 5 min to the Monteray Pier and 10 min to Carmel. The breakfast was very good with cooked to order eggs. The staff were especially nice and the front desk man Daniel Bianco bent over backwards to make our return visit very special. We will definetly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure your room doesn't face the highway.
