Great customer service. Overall clean room. Great location within walking distance of the aquarium and Cannery Row (if you are accustomed to walking). Walls are a bit thin. Breakfast appeared extensive--as long as you are not gluten-free and vegan. Parking was free. Overall a great value for an exemplary stay.

Kids, grandkids, and grandparents in search of some adventure in Monterey over Spring Vacation brought the tribe to the Monterey Inn. It was a very good choice. The rooms were well appointed, clean, except for a minor drain burp, the beds comfortable, and the office staff helpful. Our stay was to be the highlight of a vacation that usually takes us to the mountains. Not enough snow and a desire for something different pushed us to the aquarium and the surrounding area. It was a good call. The Monterey Inn helped in that. The crowd was definitely multinational, based on the conversations in the not overly large breakfast area. Some German, some French, a bit of Spanish, and possibly some Japanese were identifiable. The location is a few blocks off the attraction circuit, but close enough for strong walkers or those of us who drive closer and then walk. The price is about half so some paid parking isn't too much out of the question when the rooms aren't prohibitive.
And the rooms were actually quite inexpensive, comparatively. When I first started planning we looked at staying somewhere with a stay with aquarium tickets package. The more I explored, I came to realize there really wasn't any discount on the aquarium and you were paying full price for the rooms. I noticed a stay three nights for the price of two promotion on the website and jumped at it, since grandpa pays for these trips. We saved about $600 from the original stay/aquarium search. We decided we'd just stand in line for the aquarium and figure we just bought half a lift ticket each.
While this technically isn't about the Monterey Inn, a final tip should you be part of a large family and want to go to the aquarium. When we got to the front of the line, the cashier suggested we consider buying an annual pass. One day tickets for our group would have been $240. The pass, and there are several levels, was $275 and was good for the year. The grandkids (3) each had their own pass, plus we had passes for two other grandkids, plus the adult passes, two of them, and two transferrable guest passes. We spent part of two days at the aquarium for that $275, rather than $480. The best part is $235 of the package is tax deductible. Before you opt for the stay/aquarium package, you might explore the membership options. Since ours was a large group, it made sense, which is unusual for one of our vacations.
When we go back to Monterey, and we will. We'll probably stay at the Monterey Inn because of the value for what you get and its reasonable location. Paying the extra freight for a close up water view isn't worth it to me, particularly when the odds of fog in the morning is great.

Room Tip: Not sure there were any bad rooms. Not too much traffic on the street.

I was very happy with the service. The rooms are clean and quite. There is a very nice parking lot under ground. I didn't have to worried about parking. The front desk was helpful and good with a fast joke about the weather.

I am not into spending a lot of money on fancy hotels, but I do appreciate a clean place to stay with courteous staff members and Best Western PLUS in Monterey was just that. Great value for the money. Clean and spacious room and as an added bonus, free breakfast! I would definitely stay here again.

Good location for all the tourist sites without spending a lot. Large rooms, comfortable beds, good service, hot breakfasts, and a professional staff make this a great choice. There's a great mall just up the street and several good restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed in this hotel right after Christmas in December 2013 and it was a very nice hotel for one night but then, we stayed in a couple of small hotels in San Francisco until the new year's day and decided to go back to this hotel for another 5 days. We checked in on 1st of January and checked out on January 6th. Although our flight was from San Francisco back to New York, it was worth to trip go to this hotel. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is right on the beach, so it was great to walk on the beach in the mornings and before the sun set. It is 10 minutes driving distance to the wharf area but I walked to the wharf every morning. My partner was working from home, so there was a free internet in the room. The swimming pool is great and there is a large hot tub next to the pool. The rooms are outdated and in a great need for update but for the price of a beach-front hotel, we were happy with the rest of the things that hotel offered. There are lots of great Mexican restaurants close by and other chain restaurants. There is parking and it is $16 or $17 + tax (sorry, I do not remember the exact cost) but it is very convenient. There is a great fireplace in the lobby, overlooking the beach, we loved sitting around the fire place and enjoy our drinks. As I said, the rooms were outdated but for us, this was a memorable and romantic getaway.

This hotel may have been recently updated, and they did a very nice job. Warm, but modern, decor. Very nice, basic rooms and amenities, but with a step up. The bed was very comfy! It's conveniently located close to the convention center (1/2 mi walk), and easy on/off the freeway. Quiet location.
