On paper the hotel seemed unexceptional and was chosen merely as a convenient stopover on a touring holiday of California. However having booked in my wife and I were bowled over by the room which was spacious, light and beautifully clean. We ended up staying for 2 nights, rather than the 1 that we had originally planned. This was in part down to the hotel, rather than to Monterey itself.

The hotel was great value and only a few minutes drive from fisherman's wharf, cannery row and the aquarium.

Great value, family hotel with spacious rooms.Not for you if you want a sea view but only a short drive to the attractions.

Small pool and hot tub which the kids were very happy with.

Great Pizza at "Pizza my heart" at the Del Monte Shopping Mall.

This was a lovely hotel, clean and situated well for Monteray.
My only quibble was the reception staff were not particularly friendly.

We liked it. Nothing too special. The price was right and it is clean. Never having been to Monterey I booked without knowing the area. This hotel is away from the waterfront/aquarium/Cannery Row, but therefore cheaper. The road is kind of busy but I didn't hear and traffic. Breakfast is a muffin and coffee or tea. More like a snack.
We were satisfied, but if there is a next time, I would pay more to be closer to the water and away from the busy commerical shopping street.

Just returned from a weekend stay here Thanks to Tripadvisor's recommendation!

Pros...
very good location on Monterey Peninsula with very good highway access

nicely decorated room with great bed and layout that was very clean

friendly helpful staff

was able to get a very good rate for Monterey area

Being a SFT, the De Anza Inn felt safer than other places I have stayed in the area because of interior corridors.

Cons...

as others have stated the walls are a bit thin and thus I did wish for a white noise machine

I could see how the parking could get tight if hotel is full

Non existent breakfast

This was the most surprising part considering the rest of the hotel. If you like coffee and a pastry... I prefer something healthier. Luckily there are grocery stores nearby, including Whole Foods, where you can pick up something for breakfast. The room had a nice size frig and small microwave that were convenient and easy to use.

It is surprising how hard it is to find a reasonably priced clean conveniently located hotel in Monterey, but this place comes the closest that I have found so far.

I would stay here again knowing I need to bring a white noise machine and needing to pick up breakfast goodies to make this a great place to stay.
