“Great place to stay for its price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2006

It's a great place to stay. It was the best inexpensive hotel I've stayed so far. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was not furnished amazingly but it was very clean. Breakfast and dinner was great for the price you pay. Such a cozy and friendly atmosphere and you feel like home. Don't expect 5 star hotel luxury at Bay Park, but I'm sure you'll be taken care of. Great for Skip Barber students, very convinient to get to the Mazda Race track.

  • Liked — Cozy Atmosphere and staff treatment
  • Disliked — Bed covers
  • Tips/Secrets — if you are not going to spend too much time at the hotel, this is one of thebest options. Inexpensive and convenient.

We got a late start making reservations, and ended up with this as our only option. I wish we'd have stayed in another hotel - or another town. It was AWFUL.

First, watch out for the "end of the building" - it is directly adjacent to the highway. We heard trucks & loud cars go by for most of the night, and couldn't sleep.

The rooms are older, worn, and have no character. In most other Monterrey hotels, you'd get a lot of style at this price. I overheard another person at the front desk say they thought the rooms were overpriced - but he was in the same predicament we were - no options.

The toilets also have a power suction that sounded like a torpedo. This was OK in our room, but we got to hear the room above us, and to the side of them, also. The shower has painfully slow pressure.

I could go on - but I'll spare you the text. The people at the front desk were nice, however.

Bottom line - if you're reading this, you've got options, so choose another hotel! If my wife and I were in this situation again, and Monterrey was booked, we would go to Seaside or "Carmel Valley".

  • Liked — we only had to stay one night -
  • Disliked — highway traffic, price, room
  • Tips/Secrets — avoid this if possible - stay in other area if Monterrey booked

Elizabeth Dunbar the general manager is so welcoming and informative that you are made to feel right at home as soon as you step through the door.

Convienient location for Carmel and Monterey. Nice big clean room and a good breakfast in the Crazy Horse attached to the place.

Would recommend if you are passing through this area.

It's just a motor hotel, but the room was pleasant and fairly spacious with a refrigerator. The staff were friendly and helpful. Unlike another reviewer we didn't find the bed hard.

Only problem was human hair in the bathtub and pet hair on the sofa, the room was otherwise clean. (We were travelling with our pets and used the sheets the hotel provided plus our own pet blankets.)

The location is right off Highway 1, so it's a short drive to downtown Monterey and a slightly longer one to Cannery Row and the fantastic Monterey Aquarium. Munras Avenue has lots of other motels on it.

Wanted to find a place to stay with our dog in the Monterey/Pacific Grove area. This place is barely a "3" rating. It was just OK - the room was clean, but the furniture was a little worn. The bed was hard!

The people were nice & courteous. And it was fairly inexpensive for that Monterey/Carmel/Pacific Grove area. But they charged an extran $20/night for the dog, which was too much.

It's also pretty noisy...surrounded by busy streets on 3 sides and Highway 1 on one side. We asked for a quiet room, but had to keep the air conditioner on just for "white noise".

I wouldn't avoid it at all costs, but my preference would be to stay some place else.

After my stay at the Bay Park Hotel, only one thought came to mind..."Nice Atmosphere".
Located right off Highway One at Munras Ave, this establishment offers guest a cozy atmosphere at a nice price. The rooms are comfortable (Ask for a bay view) and with a restaurant and a cocktail lounge on the premises you don't have to go far for a good meal. This hillside hotel also has a gazebo at the north end of the property that offers pretty spectacular views of Monterey and the bay. There's no pool but there's a jacuzzi right in the middle of some pine trees which is very nice which is almost like being up in the mountains. Ideal for a chilly evening.
