4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again. Charming cottage-like setting. Very friendly and responsive staff. Comfortable beds. Spacious rooms. Free breakfast (brand-name cereals, yogurt, good muffins, hard-boiled eggs, fresh-made waffles, toast, juice, coffee, some combination of bananas/apples/oranges, and the same mediocre biscuits and gravy most hotels serve) in a cheerful, sunlit room with REAL dishes (no plastic or Styrofoam). It's not very close to the Wharf but that's not a problem because the short walk is wonderful (one evening the entire walk was the farmer's market, awesome). The indoor pool and hot tub were pleasant. There is free Wi-Fi in the rooms and a computer in the lobby (no printer though). We left a coat behind and phoned; they are having UPS ship it to us (at our expense).

We stayed 4 nights, enjoyed it, would stay there again. This was a good value for Monterey which is expensive.

I wish I could give 5 out of 5. Here's why I can't.

The cons:
Con #1. Breakfast was pleasant the first two mornings. On the third morning, a Thursday, breakfast fell apart. It was extremely crowded, not enough tables. Two women were working furiously in the kitchen and could not keep up. Tables weren't bussed (you'd think guests would bus their own, seeing the situation). Clean dishes and food items and even coffee were constantly out. This seemed to go on for the duration of the breakfast period. This was such a dramatic difference from the previous two days that I think something unusual must have gone wrong. The fourth day we got breakfast at a restaurant so I don't know how breakfast went on those days.

Con #2. We saw a rate online of $95 for 2 queen beds, but my husband called the hotel directly and got a reservation with a rate of $105 for 2 nights. When we checked in he presented our AARP membership assuming we'd get a little extra discount. Later, we extended our day for 2 more nights. We discovered we were being charged $145. It was explained to us that the rate changes constantly, because as the number of available rooms becomes smaller, the employees quote higher rates. (Do all hotels in California do this? I never encountered this before.) When we realized we were being charged $145 we explained we'd seen $95 online and were quoted $105 when we made the reservation, and the man at the desk politely said he would charge us $95 for the last night and $105 for the first three nights. In the end, when we checked out, we were charged $105 (plus taxes) for all four nights. That was close enough for us.

Room Tip: Make sure when you check in that you are being charged the rate you were quoted when making the rese...

This was our third trip to Monterey and we had previously stayed at much more pricey spa hotels in the area. We decided to take a chance on this Quality Inn and we could have not been happier with our choice. Our room was spacious, clean and even had an in room fireplace. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. They even have a full breakfast served every morning free for those who stay. The pool and hot tub were indoors and wonderful. I can not say enough about how pleased we were with everything!

The room was not as large as other Quality Inns I've stayed at but were OK. The location is convenient to downtown and right across the street from the mall. The breakfast was very good and included hot items such as fresh waffles and biscuits and gravy.

This is the second time that we have stayed at this property, both times were a good value. This is a 3 Diamond facility, not fancy, but solid, clean, quiet, friendly and helpful staff. The beds have a mattress pad secured by an elastic strap and the bed has a fitted bottom sheet. The mattress was a little firmer than I prefer, but it was solid and showed no signs of age or infestation. The caulking in the bathroom is clean and complete. The tile on the bathroom floor was well kept. The mirror showed some wear at the corners.

The indoor pool is shared with the adjacent property and the water heated well enough to ward off "chills", but cool enough to be refreshing. It is a short walk from mosst areas of the property

The continental breakfast is simple but adequate enough to provide a start for the day:
Waffles, a second warm dish - which was biscuits and gravy during our second stay, juices, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal and granola, breads/ toast/ muffins and assorted pastries. This is served in a clean, smaller breakfast room which seats about 24 people at about 7 tables.

The room, along with the office and half the rooms, are on the second floor. Unfortunately there is no elevator, but even with knee problems, we were able to climb the steps.

It is located 5 minutes from "old town" and less than 15 minutes from Cannery Row, not really within walking distance, but a short drive to these locations. Despite being located on Munras, a main artery from Hwy 1, both visits were quiet and we were not distrubed by traffic noise.

I would reccomend this property and will definitely return next time we stay in Monterey.

We stayed one night in this hotel on the way to LA and were happy with the room and fireplace. The breakfast was very basic. we would stay there again because the price/quality range was within our budget.

This is an older property that has had some updates and is overdue for another. The service was fine and the rooms are clean, but are small and dated. The layout of the bathroom was awkward, but the shower was decent and had surprisingly good water pressure. I did not use it, but there is a pool that is shared with the Clarion next door. The wi-fi was easy to connect to, worked fine and the speed was more than adequate for checking e-mail and some browsing, which is all I did. The bed seemed small for a queen size, but was comfortable. The location is good, reasonably close to Asilomar, Fisherman's Wharf and the Aquarium. There is no restaurant or gym on the property. The included breakfast was decent enough and includes a number of cold options and at least one hot item each day.

This motel is fine for singles and business travelers, but I would not recommend it for couples or kids.

This is an old hotel/motel....doors front to the outside and there are no elevators. However, the rooms are clean and well maintained...and the showers are wonderful!

Breakfast is generous and served from 7 to 10.

The staff here is very helpful and very friendly.

We had a great two nights. Would come back!

Room Tip: Go for the first floor unless you want to carry bags up fairly steep stairs.
