“Great view, mediocre food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

If you go to Fish Hopper's make sure you get a table with a view. The view is really the only redeeming thing about this restaurant. We saw a seal and a few otters while we were eating, which was great. The food, however, was incredibly overpriced and mediocre. There is a children's menu that is equally expensive ($10 per order) with huge portions (but is spaghetti with canned tomato sauce really worth $10?) There are lots of places along the bay where you can enjoy outstanding views. I would spend some time enjoying the view elsewhere and save your money for a better restaurant.

“Good place if you've got kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2011

We had received a coupon for a complimentary appetizer from the front desk of our hotel. The friendly restaurant staff honored it and gave us a choice of two plates. We chose the fried Calamari. Tasty!
The drinks that followed were just OK. The local brew I chose tasted flat and the Dos Equis was actually an amber (not a lager).
The entrees were good, but overpriced in my opinion (then again, you're on the Wharf in Monterey; it's to be expected one might argue). The kids dishes (pasta with meatballs) were huge.
The heated patio was fun. Location is perfect for the kids.

“Nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2011

Average food with big prices. We had lunch that was not inspiring. Husband had the chowder in a bread bowl. Very thick but not special. I had the seafood salad which was average. I would try other places.

“You won't be disappointed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

I asked a local where would you go for lunch and they suggested the Fish Hopper. What a great tip. The window seat view was priceless ( I watched a sea otter right below my window most of the meal; but the food is what will bring me back. I am picky about clam chowder, since I lived in Boston and know what good "chowda" is. Their chowder was also great. I had a crab and portabella mushroom dish - which was a "10". The presentation and service were as well. Thanks to that local and I'd say if you go, you won't be disappointed.

“Enjoy the view and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2011

Having visited a few years ago we tried this Restaurant again in May 2011 and was not disappointed. A good selection of fresh seafood, steak and wine. The seafood is chosen in conjunction with a sustainable seafood policy too I believe. Waiter service was good. Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna dish was precision arranged with whole slice Mango and Papaya. Quite a busy restaurant and quite noisy but they have a gem of a view for dining - ask for a window or outside seating to enjoy views of Monterey Bay. Open fire inside too. Soak it up as nothing comes close in UK (that i've visited). Good food, great wine, friends and family and a view over Monterey. Enjoy.
