our family was making a weekend trip to monterey and found this hotel. when we seen the rooms they were amazingly clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I will return to this hotel again. If you are looking for comfort and relaxing this is it. We can't say enough positive about this hotel...best place ever!!!!

My wife and I decided to stay here for our anniversary trip to Monterey this year. We have stayed at several properties on Munras Street because we like the location and relative ease to get to downtown Monterey, Cannery Row, Pacific Grove as well as to Carmel and Point Lobos. All have been reasonable as far as rates go, and decent enough properties. We don't really care a ton about amenities since we really just want a clean room, good bed and hopefully, a decent enough complimentary breakfast. All we have stayed in have these, but the value award winner goes to this Knights Inn.

We stayed here the two nights after Easter, during a busy spring break time. The rate we received came in at almost $20 lower than any other property on Munras or Fremont Street. That, along with the more favorable Tripadvisor reviews, swung us here. This Knights Inn really is situated well on Munras, directly across from the Del Monte Shopping Center which is full of restaurants and mainstream stores to shop. It is easy to get from here to Carmel and Highway 1, and to the Aquarium area as well as Fisherman's Wharf.

Now to the room. Check-in was a breeze and the front desk was helpful. The driveway is tight and steep to get into, and it is much better to park in any of the spots than to park in the guest arrival overhang when first checking in. Upon walking in, the room smelled clean and the bed linens were nicely white and everything looked appealing. Now if you want to get picky, there are some cosmetic flaws (filled holes in the walls, wear on the furniture) but it's really no big deal. There is plenty of light available, a flat screen TV with plenty of DISH channels, a couple of chairs, and a small refrigerator and microwave set up near the sink. The sink is separate from the toilet and shower. The toilet/shower area is small but adequate. The refresh of the tile made this look really good and comfortable, and even a bit more upscale than you would expect. Everything was very clean, and found not a spot of dust or dirt in the place - very appreciated - and we even moved some of the furniture around. The room did not have any closet, but had three hangers and an ironing board, and had a chest of drawers. The bed is firm and a bit bouncy. For us, the bed was too firm but it might be just right for some. The pillows were good - although some were flat and others were puffy, almost like they mixed old ones with new. The bed had a down comforter and an additional comforter for decor, and there was also an extra blanket and pillow provided if you needed it. There is a pool and hot tub located in the parking lot right out on Munras Ave. Too cold to use it this time.

OK now breakfast. There is bleh coffee, a choice of three cereals (Corn Flakes, Fruit Loops, and Cheerios) or oatmeal from the container (not packets), a bleh fruit juice machine (apple and orange), a gallon of milk sitting out on the counter, and an assortment of the standard muffins and danish. The room contains 5 seats, all stools. Bowls were styrofoam and utensils were plastic. Not good -- but honestly if you needed something to keep you from getting hungrier, you could get it. Don't come for the breakfast.

Some minor irritations we found -
The light switch to the bathroom is located on the wall OUTSIDE the door which made it darn near impossible to avoid light hitting a sleeping person in the face in the middle of the night. There is no fan in the bathroom, although it looked like there was supposed to be one, ours did not work, but the window does open. Housekeeping likes to start early - they knocked on the door at 8AM - put the do not disturb sign out if you want some privacy. The parking lot is a bit small (I have no idea how the old Cadillacs would back out) but adequate. Wi-fi was sloooww. We were on the bottom floor...and you heard everyone on the top floor. Walls were fine but we thought someone might come through the ceiling. Noise from Munras Avenue was not bad at all.

All in all, we we stay here again. The value is really tough to beat and it is a decent room for a nice stay in Monterey.

Room Tip: Choose a second story room to avoid hearing people above you.

My wife and i love this place and come here every year for our vacation. It has a good location, friendly staff, clean rooms and the rates are great. The breakfast consists of muffins(Costco), juice, coffee, and cereal, which is perfect for us. I would rather not pay more for a bigger breakfast. We would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good inexpensive place to stay.

Needing only a clean inexpensive room, Knights Inn filled the criteria...old style motel room...road noise heard, however little traffic at night...clean, inexpensive, comfy bed...concern with front desk on checking in...billing mistake corrected the following morning

We had to get a tire replaced as we were leaving town so pushed back our arrival and we got in late like 8pm. They tried to give us a room with one bed even though we had booked a two bed room. Then we had to stand around and wait for 20 minutes for a manager to drive over as the girl at front desk didn't know how to give us a room. That was a first. Room had fridge and microwave. Actually very clean and nice but take ear plugs as its right by Hwy 1 and the traffic noise is really bad. So I didn't sleep well and then housekeeping started banging on our door at 8am? Great location near to a mall across street and nice room but terrible breakfast. As another reviewer said they should just forget about trying to do breakfast and charge a better rate with no breakfast. If I stayed there again I would ask for a rate without a breakfast.

Room Tip: As far away from the street as you can get. As traffic noise is really bad.

We stayed in Monterey for one night on our American road trip. I booked this place because it was cheap and in a good location. This was the first time I've stayed in a Knights Inn and i think it will be the last. The lobby smells like curry, the rooms are ok however the walls are very thin and we got woken up in the night by people in other rooms. The breakfast room is a shoebox which also smells like curry, you have to take your breakfast back to your room as there was one table however all there is for breakfast was a few cereals and some cake so i wouldn't even bother with it. The rooms were clean and a decent size and the hotel is opposite to a shopping complex which was great as there is a cinema and places to eat however i won't stay in a Knights Inn again.
