“pass on this one”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

Having been a flight attendant and stayed in hundreds of hotels, I'd have to say that this bed was one of the worst I've ever slept in. The rooms were clean and safe, however, the walls were paper thin, and the bed extremely uncomfortable. If you're looking for clean, safe, and cheap - this is your place. If you're hoping for a restful night's sleep, maybe look elsewhere. I wouldn't stay here again.

“Good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011

I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews here. It is a budget/cheap motel and good value for money. Good sized rooms, and clean. Ample parking, and a short 5+ minute drive to the main drag of Monterey. There is a shopping mall located across the road. For the price I paid, my expectations were met and I’d be happy to stay here again.

“Worst Motel I have stayed in”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

I stayed in many motels and hotels during my 16 night holiday in California and Nevada in August 2011 but this really was the worst one we stayed in.
I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the motel because the exterior was very nice. It was well kept and there were lovely flowers making the place look nice. It was a different story when entering the room!
First, there was a massive gap between the door frame and wall, so the draught that came in was terrible. My sister and I were freezing at night!
Second, the bed covers and towels absolutely stunk of curry. The motel is run by an Asian family which I have no problem with at all, but I don't expect the sheets to smell of curry. It was very off putting particularly when you had to wrap yourself in the cover because it was so freezing!!
Third, there was no fridge, no coffee making facilities and the TV didn't receive many channels.
I don't usually moan this much about a place but we were both unhappy and it wasn't cheap to stay there.

The only positive is that the location was rather good. You can easily walk into Monterey and its only a short drive to Carmel.
I would definitely consider another motel on Munras Avenue as there are many to choose from.

“Bargain Basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

A family operated motel. Good location. Just off Route 1 makes it easy to go north or south. Short drive to downtown Monterey and sites on the water. Basic accommodation. My room was clean. Breakfast is skimpy. Front desk staff were helpful but not overly friendly. Cost was reasonable. Many similar type of motels on Munras Ave as you go into town.

“Unpleasant night staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

Rooms clean, well presented, but lack basic facilities that even LA and Palm Springs Travelodge can manage! No fridge, microwave or kettle in our rooms so can’t even make tea/coffee. No safe either. ‘Breakfast’ is a joke. Tiny room, no seats, no choice except prepacked sweet cereal, old pastries, from cupboard storage. On arrival at night guy on front desk Mr Patel was completely unhelpful. He charged us extra for a so-called “futon” to use in our twin room – basically a piece of foam, a thin 1 inch 'mattress' for the floor! When I asked for a second one to place on top so it was a little more comfortable he refused, though when offered payment for a second one he then said yes! He wasn’t prepared for us to have a second 'mattress' without money.
Lots of other choices on the same road - several motels. Choose another.
