We wanted to celebrate my birthday in town on the wharf. April 24th, 2013. We decided to go to the fisherman's grotto. We made reservations for 5 people at & 7:45pm.. We were a few minutes late but the people outside the restaurant were so friendly and opened the door for us, the gentleman at the door was really nice and the cute hostess sat us right away. Our table was in the middle of the room, not on the window we were hoping for with a reservation and there were 2 tables on the window that were empty. Our server was prompt and professional. and our food came to the table with perfect timing. Our cocktails were delicious but, the food!!! The clam chowder was bland and every time i bit into a clam it had grains of sand. I ordered the rib-eye with twice baked potato on the menu it said the rib-eye was smothered in mushrooms or so i thought but when i received my plate the rib-eye was on top of some sort of something. my potato was cold not room temperature not warm but cold! and 3 small pieces of asparagus. i ordered a 1/2 of a crab which was very small and so over cooked that the meat was stuck to one side of the shell. it was hard enough to try to get the crab meat out of the shell when the little fork was bigger than the crab legs let alone being stuck to the shell. my husband had the sand dabs and he said they were ok, the rest of our party agreed that there food was ok. We then ordered dessert and told them it was my birthday but no candle no happy birthday no anything, they did give the girls at the table a little pink rose each. i give the service a 5 excellent service! i give the ambiance a 3 out dated and very dark! i give the food a 2 i expected fresh seafood and a good healthy size portion of it for the price we paid! cold potato and come on 3 little pieces of asparagus? i was really bummed that we spent a lot of money for crap! what a disappointment! next time i am going to go to Rocky Point and get great fresh food as well as service and the ocean view is even better.
