“disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

Ordered the salmon which the waiter said was the special.the sauce was good but the salmon was terribly undercooked.I told the waiter about it and instead of getting the whole plate to warm it up or even change my dish.he took the salmon out of my plate, took it back to the kitchen and a few minutes later, put it back in the same plate.part of the enjoyment of eating is visual so to eat an undercookrd dish and later eating the same dish but flaked to cook it through, takes the joy out.the waiter didn't bother to check on us after this, not even to at least check if we needed water.we only saw him when we got our bill.not a word of thanks was said.it was altogether a disappointing experience.

“Yum! Excellence in everything!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

Our hotel concerge told us to try his favorite restaurant--even gave us a coupon for a free appetizer. What a good tip this was! It could easily become our favorite as well. The food, service, and atmosphere were wonderful. Our party of four was able to get in without much wait when a reservation cancelled at the last minute. Coupon was for the calamari, which I usually don't like. However, they were tender and delicious--a surprise even to me. All the dishes and tapas were excellent and served in style, several with uniquie twists and beautiful presentations. Loved the bread pudding! The tables are close together and this would not be a very good place to bring children, but I would make this restaurant a priority any time I might be in Monterey and want a memorable, delicious meal.

“Amazing Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2012

If you go to Monterey, you must visit Montrio Bistro! The food, service and atmosphere were excellent! Our reservation was for 6:00pm and we were promptly seated. We were greeted by our waiter right away. The restaurant was very busy on a Friday night, especially as the night went on. The atmosphere was great with dim lighting and eye appealing colors. We started with the artichoke appetizer and were not disappointed! The artichoke was cooked perfectly and the olive tapenade and the sauce it was served in were to die for. PLEASE try this appetizer! We had the duck breast special which was amazing. The most moist duck breast we have ever tried. And we had the porkchop. The porkchop was awesome and very moist and flavorful. The desserts were great too. We shared the small bite s'more dessert and the bread pudding. I highly recommend both. Especially the modern take on the s'more! We will be going back the next time we are in Monterey.

“Stylish bistro, excellent food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2012

Montrio's renovated firehouse is a lively setting for excellent food and wonderful service (get Chris for your waiter if possible!). Not everything clicks, but more often than not, the dishes reach very good to superb. We've had outstanding paella (a special), wonderful duck, and sublime crepes here - this was our second visit in two years.

Best of all are their 'dessert mini-bites'. This is a brilliant concept, refuting the idiotic 'more is better' that afflicts so many places. You get just enough for four bites, an ideal way to end a meal without feeling overstuffed.

“Great experience all around!”

Short ribs and bread pudding to die for. Our waiter was entertaining without being annoying. The atmosphere nice but the tables are packed in too tight.
