My husband and I booked this motel for 2 days. We walked into the office and it reeked of curry. We walked into our room, set our stuff down and walked back out to go to cannery row. When we returned, we went to go sit on the bed and noticed that the comforter and pillows stank. Luckily, I brought my own blankets and pillows with me just in case. So I pulled back the comforter only to find a blanket with a bunch of gunk that was hardened onto the blanket. Then, I pulled the sheets back and I found a lighter in the middle of the bed!!! There was crumbs on the floor, too, as if the room had not been vacuumed. We walked back to the office but it was closed. We Went to the lobby first thing in the morning to talk to the manager, I believe his name was Neal (or something along the lines of that). He apologized and said he would take care of the issue. We went to have breakfast and came back to the room to see if they changed the bed sheets. They did change the sheets and the blanket but they did not change the comforter or new pillows after we specifically asked for all new bedding. I asked for a refund for the 2nd night and he refused, he only gave us a $20 discount. We left and stayed somewhere else for the 2nd night. I would avoid this place at all costs, it is a roach motel.

This motel surprised us positively. The room had a nice fireplace and flowers and all in all the room was very nice and big.
The only negative thing was the neighbors who were loud during the night and the walls are not thick.
A good thing is to negotiate the room price :)

We stayed at Del Monte Pines for one night during a US West Coast road trip we did in October 2014. The motel is located on the main Motel strip next to a mall with shops and various food choices. Cannery Wharf and the Aquarium are a few minutes drive away. You could walk if you really wanted to but it will take you a good deal of time.

It offers free parking and WiFi. The free breakfast can safely be discarded. Staff were friendly and efficient.

The room we were assigned was clean and relatively spacious. It had a king bed and all the standard amenities you would expect from a US Motel (Air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair drier). What was not standard was a fireplace and the shower/whirlpool combination that was integrated into the main room - a little weird but at the same time somewhat cool :-)

A good place to stay for budget conscious travelers who are just looking for a clean place to freshen up and rest their heads for a night (the standard rates are ridiculous - look online on TA, Pricelines or the likes and you should find reasonable deals).

The room is very big and clean. I expected much less, but I had a quiet and comfortable night. Remember the value that you are paying, so do not expect more than the muffins and orange juice at the breakfast. Great choice for 1 or 2 nights. I would definitely stay here again.

Mmmmmmmmmmm reading other reviews i'm unsure what people expect for the rates they pay..... Unless we found a ridiculously low rate that is.
For the money we found this motel quite pleasant. The rooms were clean, comfortable and adequately furnished and both ours had fridge, microwave and iron, (but no ironing board). Some of the furniture was a little old and tatty but nothing worse than quite a few other motels/hotels we have stayed in whilst in the States. The staff where all very friendly and maids where in every day but never intrusive.

Location wise the motel is across from a large mall (not that you notice it for the trees) which is handy. You can, as we did, walk down into the main streets of Monterey which is probably just less than a mile away but it may be a car/taxi journey for some.

The only negatives we can offer are the lack of any swimming or plunge pool and the so called breakfast which consisted of a muffin cut into quarters, coffee and a banana if you were lucky.

We did not pay a four star price for our stay at the Del Monte Pines, nor did we expect or get four star rooms therefore we were happy with our choice and would stay here again.

The shower doesn't work properly, bathroom too small, bedroom too old with primitive TV & furniture. It has mold and smells bad. The breakfast is served at the reception with just orange juice, and some pastries. They charge for service, beyond taxes. This hotel doesn't have the value we paid for.

Room Tip: Visit the bedroom before you pay.

It was a bad experience living in this motel. Rooms are not like the pictures shown on the Internet. Dirty pillows, blanket and bed sheets. Furniture is very old. Never booking this motel again. I do not recommend this motel to anyone.
