I was looking for 1 night at a reasonable price. All I wanted was a bed and bathroom for in one night, out the next morning. Lone Oak suited me perfectly.
It's located on Fremont street, which is very much a low-cost hotel/restaurant strip, so don't expect scenic views.
But, I was pleasantly surprised by the room - very modern and clean. It looked like the room had had a very recent reno. The bed was quite comfortable, and the counter/sink area and separate toilet/shower room were spotless.
If all you need is a place to crash, I'd check this out first. If you can get a rate you like, don't bother looking further.
One downside - no air conditioning. Not an issue the night I was there, but if it ever gets hot in Monterey, I imagine the room could get uncomfortable.
Turn right out of the parking lot, walk 5 minutes to Monterey Cookhouse, probably the best restauran...

Thank you for your review. While Monterey never really gets that warm, we do have fans in each room. Our weather is a lot like San Francisco. The Monterey Cookhouse is a great place to eat and within walking distance of the Lodge
