“A perfectly decent place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

We were looking for an overnight stay in Monterey. Tried a few places that were overpriced and then chanced on this place. It's old style and basic but the front desk guy was welcoming and helpful and the room, which was cheap, basic with a glimpse of the ocean was fine
Would be happy to stay here again

The room was musty and very humid. The price was good, the location could not be beat, and the staff were very nice. My only complaint really was the room could have used a serious dehumidifier, and a deep cleaning, not that it was dirty, it's just that you could tell it really needed a little update. All in all I would stay there again because it is walking distance to everything and your other options in the area are twice as expensive.

Room Tip: Try to stay away from anything on the street side if possible, just less noise, but even the street...

Compared to prices throughout the Monterey area, this inn's prices were significantly lower and very reasonable for the area. They easily could "milk" the area for higher prices but do not. Located just a block away from great shopping, views and restaurants they allowed us to enjoy our overnight stay without leaving feeling broke. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. No complaints. We were on the third floor overlooking the bay and the sunrise was spectacular. This could be seen right from our bay window. Also provided a "gift bag" of various munchies that were very tasty. Since we are from Flordida, may never get back their again but we certainly left with a great experience and want to pass this on to others.

This was a great place to stay to walk to the cannery row area & walking distance to aquarium. You can find great restaurants & shopping without having to drive. The hotel is nothing fancy but it was clean& nice staff. We went for New Years & the price was great for area.

Room Tip: 4th floor we got a nice view & king bed.

Best price for the location! We have stayed here twice this year and the first time was a last minute stay. There was a bucket under the leaky sink in bathroom and bathroom window did not close. Our second stay was pretty bad unfortunately because the hotel location and staff was wonderful.

Our second stay we found ants all around the bathroom sink and next to one bed. Yuck! Bugs are a deal breaker for hotels! We did not get in our room and settled until way too late to up and move our kids to a different hotel. The walls are extremely thin and no locks on windows no added interior lock on door. So you hear EVERYTHING from rooms above or next to you.

Again, if location and being within a super short walk to cannery row this is a great location, free parking... poor hotel needs some serious TLC.

Room Tip: Call hotel directly to get best rate.

Have been staying at the Otter Inn for our anniversary and other getaways for the last 3 years and found this to be a gem. Close to everything without having to drive. Easy walking to Cannery Row and the many great places to eat or just sit and enjoy the sights and beauty.

The Otter Inn is located just a brief walk from Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. As this area is a tourist destination, the hotel provided the up most convenience to our must-see list of attractions. The building itself is slightly dated and the paint has endured several sea salt breezes making the exterior to appear a faded color, however you are paying for the location. We only needed a place to stay for one night and based on the availability and price we chose the Otter Inn. The front desk employee went above and beyond to fully educate us on the area attractions and local-favorite restaurants. We had a clear view of the ocean from our room and the parking is more than generous and was never full during our stay. When checking out we were told we could keep our car in the parking garage until 3pm that afternoon if we planned to stroll around the waterfront area, which saved us money from finding parking elsewhere. I highly suggest staying at the Otter Inn during your stay in Monterey!

Room Tip: The top floor allows you to view the ocean from your hotel room... a very relaxing sight to wake up...
