“Good Value, Good Location, Very Friendly Staff!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We stay from 29 July to 4 August 2012. We booked by telephone and we were offered a rate lower than advertized on internet. The property was well maintained and the renovations at the front desk look very promising. Our room was very comfortable and clean. We really enjoyed Lexi's hospitality, visit tips and discounts on where to eat. Free WIFI is available and the location is advantageous since you're very close to the highway entrance and it's about 1,5 miles to Fishermans Wharf. Cannery Row is a little further but too far to walk in our opinion. The only (slight) problem we found was that the continental breakfast was below standard. Pastries were the Costco-like muffins cut in quarters and other cheap individually-wrapped pastries, full of sugar and not good or fresh at all. There was no milk or cream for coffee, only powder cream. Although it might suit some of you guys but we were expecting at least a good selection (3-4) of fresh fruits, fresh toasts, bagels, cereals, milk and other regular items you would find in a typical continental breakfast.

All in all, a very good choice and value. Thanks to the very friendly staff.

Room Tip: We stayed on a top floor room, we assume it must be quieter than the ground level ones.

We spent the night there on the way to San Francisco. I like to plan ahead so I booked the room online a week before. Lucky for us, we arrived late and the lodge was fully booked, so we got the King Suite! Spacious, clean and comfortable. And for the price we paid, wow, we really did get lucky! We loved it. I recommend this lodge, but I also recommend you book the room ahead of time.

This is an older hotel next to the freeway coming into Monterey, it si being remodeled and the rooms are smallish and in pretty good repair. The beds in our room should have been replaced years ago tho9ugh, saggy, noisey, cigarette burns in the cover. Monterey is brutally expensive and this place is one of the lesser priced, $220 a night. Being close to the freeway I expected freeway noise and it did not happen, very quiet all night.
You are close to town, very close to a nice park and lake too. I would stay here again if I had to stay in Monterey.
BUT: A few blocks away is Seaside and Seaside has quite a few motels that are nice and a bunch less expensive and just as close to the downtown area as this is. Stay in Seaside.

Room Tip: Try staying in Seaside.....just as close and lot less expensive.

Convenient but not right in the middle of everything which I prefer. Redoing lobby tile so that was a bit messed up but I don't care. (Got to do it some time.) Room was private, secure, surrounded by FANTASTIC flowering bouganvilla so that was very romantic. Room was gorgeous and super squeeky clean, modern with ALL of the nice little touches. We had coffee, our own fridge, hair dryer, big screen TV and Soap smelled wonderful. Nice sized bath room and good sized tub. Room has pleasant view of neighborhood. A/c worked well (something I need a lot). Bed firm and felt great, slept very well. Sheets were top quality and felt good. Great visit, ran a bit late on check out time and asked for 1/2 hour over and they granted it without problem. We will come back to this one for sure.

The location is very good ... right off the highway, nestled next to a quiet neighborhood full of flowers which you'll walk through to get to a nice, large park & Fisherman's Wharf (maybe a 10-minute walk?). The owners were very friendly and helpful. They gave us good recommendations (and discounts) for local restaurants. The wife went over and beyond the call-of-duty when she noticed one of my children's sunburned faces and quickly cut a large stalk of aloe from her garden for us to use to help alleviate the burn for the rest of our travels. So thoughtful! The rooms were just fine. The front lobby was under reconstruction but that didn't affect check-in/out. No pool to speak of but this does not matter with all the great amenities nearby. The small property is nicely landscaped with pretty bougainvilleas, other flowers. My kids loved eating the packaged muffins/danishes. I gravitated to the bananas and apples at breakfast.

Pleasant hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Rooms very clean and quiet but simple. No frills or extras very basic. Good for the price and location. Not too far from the wharf but not exactly walking distance. Did not stay for breakfast since was not offered until after 8 am and we started out on our road trip early at 7 am.
