“Nice rooms, shame about the details”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

The check in process was smooth and efficient.
When we arrived in our room we we were pleased with it's size and decor. I was suprised to discover that none of the rooms have air conditioning (I would have thought this was standard in California) - however when we questioned this a fan was brought to our room within a few minutes.
We had chosen this hotel as it claims to have Wi-fi in all guest rooms - all rooms except for ours then ! When we questioned this we were told that we should call tech-support as it could be an issue with our computer - funny how we could get a signal in the car park ! Our room was at the furthest point from the main hotel area and down some stairs.
There was nothing we could do about this issue as the hotel was full so we set out for a day whale watching early on Saturday morning. Upon our return to the hotel we discovered that our bedroom door had been left openall day after the cleaners had been in. Needless to say we were not impressed as we had left our personal belongings in a locked room and returned to find them in a room with a door that was open to the public (due to the lay-out of the hotel there is no need for non-guests to enter the main hotel area to access the rooms and as such our room was effectively left open to the street all day !). When we brought this to the attention of the main desk we got the impression that they did not see this as an issue.
They did send someone to fix the door who ensured that it was fixed before he left us - all well and good but we would have rather that the cleaner had raised the issue and arranged for the door to be fixed prior to our return.
We were touring around California and stayed in 5 hotels and this is the only one where we experienced any issues and would not recommend to a friend.

Guest feedback is a valuable and welcomed tool for the successful operation of our hotel. We sincerely apologize to this guest for the experiences they have described including the internet connection and the issue with their guestroom door. The complete safety and security of all our guests is always of the utmost importance. The issues raised have been shared with staff to ensure that these instances will not repeat.

It should be noted that a portion of our guestrooms do feature Air Conditioning although this guest’s room was not equipped with A/C. Guests may request an Air Conditioned room while making a reservation or upon check-in and will be accommodated based on availability.

One of the best places I have ever stayed. There were 3 couples in our group and we all thought it was great. The free breakfast was wonderful and the homemade waffles devine. The staff was very helpful. AAAA++++

We stayed at Abrego in Monterey for 1 night in November 09. The only "complaint" that i have is that the room was on a smaller size but it still was a great room! Very nicely furnished with a fireplace ( serving as a heater?), stylish bathroom and VERY comfortable king bed. What else a traveler needs! The staff was very friendly and helped us with the dinner recommendation. We will definitely come back to Abrego next time we're in Monterey.

We stayed at the Hotel Abrego based on reviews from other people and were not disappointed. The staff is friendly and accomodating, responsive to calls, and attentive to needs. The faucet was loose in our room when we arrived, so we called the front desk. It was handled by maintenance within 30 min. The sitting area for the TV is not very comfortable, or this hotel would get a 5

The Abrego was a welcoming haven after a long drive. The staff on the front desk are friendly and efficient. The room was very smart and contained the most comfortable bed and bedding we have ever experienced. The room was quite small but not cramped and had no view but was in the main building and was luxurious and very quiet. AC was quiet but efficient.
The hotel had plentiful parking and a really good happy hour for food and drink from 4.30 to 6.30 which was good value. Breakfast was really good but a free continental option would have been nice. Overall, a brilliant hotel.

This beautiful hotel is in a great location that is close within walking distance to the Wharf and Cannery Row. Even better, it is closest to the Monterey Transit system which has free trolleys that run from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Also there are buses that take you to Big Sur, Carmel, Carmel Valley, Pebble Beach, and a host of other beautiful spots.
The hotel itself is quiet and serene. The fireplace in the newly renovated room set the tone for a fabulous Labor Day getaway. All the staff were helpful, and happy to serve.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and were pleased with the accommodations. The room we ended up staying in was very nice and clean with a fireplace and a very very nice bathroom.

The downside of this hotel was that we originally had booked the average room and when we got there we were pleased with the room until we found it had no air conditioning. It was suggested that it was cool in Monterrey and we could just open the windows. Well the room was warm and stuffy and we are not comfortable with leaving our windows open in a strange town which we know very little about. I have asthma and breathing cool/damp night air does not do for me so we were pretty much forced to upgrade to the "rooms with air conditioning" at the tune of $40 per night.

So for $200 per night we now have air conditioning, a beautiful room but we still found to have breakfast we would have to pay $10 each. We also found that to purchase a soda at the hotel was basically $3 - $2 and something and bartender wanted a tip.

So although we were pleased with the room and the ambiance, we felt that the advertising of the hotel should include that most of the rooms are not air-conditioned and that the breakfast they have in the morning is not "complimentary".

Other than that, the service was fine, the hotel was clean and our stay, once we upgraded, was pleasant.
