“Unexpectedly great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

We stayed here one night during the Pebble Beach Golf tournament. It was a last minute sort of reservation and we didn't have any expectations. But, out stay was lovely. We were traveling with our two year old daughter and felt completely welcome, unlike other places that look at you like you are going to ruin their Zen by having procreated. The staff was very friendly and the room was spacious feeling and comfortable. The highlight was the breakfast. I had recently been put on an extremely restrictive diet by my doctor and didn’t expect to find anything to eat except a couple of grapes off someone else’s fruit plate. But, the chef came out, asked about my diet, and said he’d been experimenting with some vegan cooking lately and he’d try to make something for me. It was great. He was great. We will definitely return when we are back in the area.

“Overall, a nice place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

We planned a little get away to Monterey and I researched for hotels near by Fisherman's Wharf and the Aquarium. I quickly took notice the great reviews Hotel Abrego received. Got a great deal via Expedia too!
Upon arrival, we were nicely greeted by the front desk and got our room squared away with ease. We were surprised once we realized our room was part of a separate complex across the parking lot.
Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. The fireplace was a nice touch.
Once we were ready to sleep, the folks next to our room turned their television on and it seemed as though a party was going on. I was disappointed with the thin walls. I literally heard everything (way more than I needed to) and it was difficult to fall asleep because they had their tv on until 2 am! Was hoping to get a good night sleep during our getaway but that was clearly impossible.
The hotel overall was very nice but I don't think I would return only because of the thin walls.

“Needs to mature and add a few things”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The staff was excellent, from the woman that cleaned my room, the front desk and the dining area folks were all very helpful and willing to accomidate. That said, here are the issues we encountered staying a week. I spent an additional 150.00 in cabs as my boy friend had to unexpectedly use the rent car and becasue there was no shuttle service i had to pay for cabs the entire week and that was not in the budget. The fireplace had the lowest of flames and although a nice touch, when temperatures outside got really low it would have been nice to have a flame that would actual provide a little heat. Laying in bed you could not see the flame so if you want to use the fireplace for the romantic moments, you would not have been able to see it. In the dining area the menu is lovely and the prices are not that off but the dining room itself gives the apperance or layout of a continental breakfast buffet more than the upscale place it wants to be. When an error was made on the final bill (a goverment rate) the management refused to refund the tax's that were charged on the bill even though it was suppose to be tax exempt. Once the issue was discovered no management was available so we paid the bill and was instructed to call back once home. The manager said it was to late to do anything since the bill had been paid. Hard to believe that if a grocery store or retail can refund or credit, a hotel should as well. and felt he was just unwilling to cooperate and literally cheated the government. I really liked the place and had it not been for the issue with the charges i might would have rated it higher but my pocket book from cabs and not being refunded the taxes made me give the lower score. THIS IS NO REFLECTION on the day to day staff!! They were wonderful, Marc the chef is awesome and has some wonderful food offerings. Not sure i would go back though.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building.

Dear Janice H,

Thank you for sharing your comments about your stay at Hotel Abrego. Our guests are our number one priority, as you saw reflected in our day-to-day customer service. Regarding your concerns about tax exemption, Monterey County has strict guidelines which must be met to be exempt from hotel tax. We will be in touch to further discuss these details. We hope you will consider returning to Hotel Abrego on your future visits to Monterey.

“Nice hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

We stayed for two nights. We had a 3rd floor room in the same building as the lobby, with fireplace. The room was larger than other hotel rooms we've had, modern and stylishly decorated, and very comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, with very nice linens. Noise levels between rooms were minimal, but there was a minor amount of road noise during the day due to the proximity of our room to the intersection. Noise wasn't an issue at night. Internet connection options were poor (very slow connection for free, slow connection for pay). Would definitely stay again.

“What a marvelous staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This is a truly wonderful hotel. While checking in we had a terrible event - our family pet broke loose, ran into traffic and was killed. The staff - the manager, the persons behind the desk, even the bar tender, were immediately respondsive with compassion and creativity to our needs well beyond the call of duty. Beyond that, hotel itself is a jewel. Rooms are spotlessly clean and so attractively furnished. The facility as all anyone could want.
