“Hotel Abrego review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Well-designed, clean, friendly staff and conveniently-located...Hotel Abrego was everything we were looking for in a weekend away. This hotel was everything promised on the web site, including the delicious on-site restaurant featuring creatively-designed comfort foods and local wines.

It was nice, not on the water, but close to the beach area. Not within walking distance in my opinion. The room had a fireplace which worked, but seemed more ornamental than truly functional (it is enclosed in glass). Breakfast is not included, no fridge in the room. The most inconvient thing is there is NO elevator. It is only 2 stories, but that's a lot to lug luggage up and down. I would stay there again in a pinch if nothing else was avail.

What a fabulous surprise we got after driving 6 hours from Laguna Beach to Monterey. The hotel was absolutely fabulous. We were warmly welcomed at reception and checked in very promptly. The rooms follow the theme of chalets out in Whistler but the surprise was when we entered the room. Beautifully decorated in nudes, fawn, beiges meant the room was very welcoming and to our delight the room had a huge 60" gas fire, 2 huge beds and a 40" tv on the wall.

Unfortunately we were only there one night, we really wanted to stay more.

We had a delicious Buffett style breakfast $9.99 each, not your usual USA Buffett; this was freshly made omelettes cooked in front of us...bacon, eggs, fresh fruit, cereal.... Beautiful

This hotel comes highly recommended!!

The Hotel Abrego is conveniently located at the edge of downtown Monterey, with a variety of excellent rooms from modest to large, incredibly comfortable beds, liberally appointed rooms, a pool and jacuzzi, a fantastic, quiet, comfy restaurant/lounge (Breakfast and dinner by the renowed and creative chef, Marc Jones), wine bar and soon to have full bar. The laundry facilities are wonderful for those staying a while. The free internet is more than adequate but there are super fast options too. These are the basics that they make into superlatives. What really sets this place apart is the staff. I have stayed there frequently over the past years and ALWAYS am treated as a personally honored guest. When my mom passed away, they made arrangements for much of the whole family to stay at a very reasonable rate. Such a caring, considerate and professional team I cannot find...except at the Hotel Abrego. Their online club helps you make use of a variety of specials so, join up. I would match the service and personal touches of this small hotel to any in the city. Terrific diamond in the rough of Monterey hotels/motels.

Room Tip: Use their online service to get best rates. Check frequently as rates vary widely depending on timi...

What a great way spend to Christmas...at the beach! We had a ball! This hotel is dog friendly for a steep fee, negoiate. Stayed in a fireplace room which was warm, very modern, large, CLEAN and recently updated. No complaints! The restaurant onsite was adequate, but not great for the price. If you are starving, it's there for you, but plenty of other choices await you in this "foodie-haven", neck of the woods. Pool, hot tub was kinda small and used by many guest, but it was clean and heated. GREAT LOCATION!!! Would stay here agaim, hopefully for Christmas again.

Room Tip: Ask for a fireplace room, skip the meal at the restaurant and just order a glass of wine on your way...

Dear LetsGoBaxter,

Finding a special place to stay on any holiday vacation is always tough, and we are happy to hear you enjoyed your Christmas at Hotel Abrego. Our pet fee is a nominal fee that we assess to allow the convenience of bringing your furry family along. Our restaurant, Bistro Monterey has a new menu, and we encourage you to partake in the tasty new selection when you return to Monterey on your future travels!

We had a deluxe king bed room w/ fireplace. Everything about the room was nice. Some people may wish to have a bathtub--our room only had a shower. The hotel is in a good location and walking distance to most attractions and restaurants. The 10 dollar breakfast is good, but the service is not. We had to ask for everything and no help from the server until it was too late. The absolute worst part of our visit was when I was checking out and got charged $90.00 for the pet fee for 2 nights. I was expecting $30 a night. This fee is unreasonable and absolutely too high. I would have given 5 stars if the pet fee was reasonable and the service at breakfast was better.

We loved everything about this place. The room was great, stayed here with out two kids. Large rooms with two queen beds and a little Chaise longue, big enough to have one of the kids sleep on. Kids also loved the remote controlled 'magic' fireplace.

I loved how friendly everyone was. Had the breakfast buffet twice, a great deal for $10 per adult and free for the kids. Made to order omelets, french toast and a lot of other items.

The only thing you don't get here is a great view. But the location is convenient, close to downtown and to Denise the Menace park. A short drive to the Aquarium.
