“Nice comfortable rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

This was our second time staying here during December. Both of which have been my birthday trip. We love Monterey and this is the nicest, most relaxing hotel we've stayed in. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortalble and I especially like the fireplace. We would definitly recommend this hotel and we are definitly coming back again.

While of course it would be lovely to stay on the water, we chose to save a bit of money and while we had dinner on an ocean patio, we stayed at Hotel Abrego for two nights. Free parking, fine in-town location, and updated rooms . . . it was a good value for our family. We did not eat in the small hotel restaurant, but did have a glass of wine -- pleasant, quiet space.

Had a nice room at the Abrego, clean, nicely furnished, with fireplace. Checking staff a bit slow and confused about handling a Travelocity reservation, but otherwise ok. I would have liked the hotel even more if the rate had been a bit lower - the is the off season in Monterey ...

Room Tip: Try to get a quieter room in the back.

We stayed at the Hotel Abrego for one night last week. We've stayed in Monterey before but the Hotel Abrego was a very pleasant surprise over the other places we've stayed there.
First the staff was very friendly and helpful. Over the course of our one night stay we talked to three different people at the desk as well as the service staff in the Bistro which was just off the lobby. All of them presented the same high level of customer service.
The rooms were modern and nicely appointed. We stayed in a king fireplace room in the main building. It was large with plenty of room for additional rollaways or cribs if you need that. The gas fireplace turned on with a push of a wall mounted remote and turned itself off after a set time. The bathroom had modern fixtures and a large showever with a rain style shower head. Bedding was top notch with pleanty of pillows for our needs.
Bistro Montery eatery is just off the lobby. They serve a buffet brekfast and have a dinner menu. We had breakfast. For $9.99 it was a deal. Even though it's a buffet, Steve our waiter made sure we had everything we needed. They had fruit, a selection of pastries, bagels, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage. This day the cheff was behind the counter making omletts to order which Steve delivered to our table along with refils of coffee and juice included with our meal.
This hotel is a story of old and new. The main building, which has mostly king rooms, is new and was built on the site of an old Denny's restaurant. The other wing was once part of a motel. That wing was completely remodeled in 2009. The rooms in this wing are typically queen rooms and have the same nice appointments as the larger rooms in the main building.
For buisness visitors, they have meeting rooms currently that can accomodate medium sized meetings. They told me that they are in the process of creating a larger meeting space as well as a business center. They are also working on a new fitness center.
We have stayed in several differnt places in Montery over the years mostly motels along Munras Ave. But there aren't many of those that I'd recommend or have a pressing desire to stay at again. With the Hotel Abrego I can tell you yes to both of those. I recommend it and I would love to go there again.

Room Tip: Get a room in the main building if you want that extra bit of room and comfort.

Very comfortable hotel. Large, clean rooms. Fluffy pillows. Would definitely return. Not far from Del Monte Shopping Center: great for variety of stores and movie theater. Also not far from Pacific Grove. Our room was on the 2nd floor for which we had to climb a short flight of stairs with our luggage. Not a great inconvenience. Staff were friendly andvery helpful.

Room Tip: In the wintertime ask for a room which faces the pool.

My husband, our 2.5yr old, our 11mo, and my sister-in-law stayed at the hotel 11/29-12/2/2012. In the past, our experience traveling with 2 small children in one hotel room is a nightmare. The ability to get the children to bed at a reasonable hour and still have some adult time to relax and have a conversation is non-existent. We have typically tried to stay in a hotel with a separate living and sleeping area. This has been somewhat successful. With the added adult, we knew this wasn't going to work. My sister-in-law call the hotel prior to purchasing the living socal coupon to see if it would be possible to have 2 adjoining rooms. They were extremely accommodating and understanding. She said she could not confirm two adjoining rooms, but didn't think it would be a problem. We arrived about 2 hours earlier than check-in and our rooms were unavailable...for about 10 min. The rooms were wonderful. Nicely decorated, clean, spacious, and the most amazing shower! The front desk, breakfast, and housekeeping staff were delightful. One front desk woman was so sweet, my 2.5 yr old couldn't wait to see her and tell her about our adventures each time we went back to the hotel. The hotel is an easy walk downtown. We drove to the Aquarium, but it was short and sweet. And the extremely easy drive to Carmel/ Point Lobos has convinced us we will come back here before we shell out the extra money to stay in Carmel. Not worth it in my book. Great hotel. I'd highly recommend to friends and family (even without the Living Social Deal). Especially when traveling with small children.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building (building 1?). Very quiet. I heard the other buildings weren't as qu...

We enjoyed our recent stay. Rooms were newly refinished, clean & well appointed. They are smaller than they appear in the picture (very narrow) - not much room in the "Deluxe" 2 Queen - but appreciate that there was enough room for a blow up mattress to accomodate a party of 5. The restaurant serves a very nice breakfast - great value for $10 ($5 for kids). Would be nice if they had a lobby area to spend time in as a family and with others traveling with - as the rooms are small to spend much time in together.

Reasonably good location. A quick drive to Cannery Row / Aquarium - would be a bit of a walk.
Though it's a short walk to the main downtown street with local dining options. Also a short walk to Dennis the Menace Park - if you have kids it's a great place to play and get out some energy!

Friendly staff. Overall, I would recommend and would stay again.
