“Very nice place to stay, convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

Very nice hotel. The outside, lobby and front desk area are beautiful and very chic. Our room (2 queen beds) was nice. Nice decor and had a fireplace. It was clean, and I love the location. It was minutes (to drive) from Fisherman's Wharf and The Cannery.

There is an awesome French bakery across the street - their croissants taste like it is from Paris! We also ate at The Wild Plum which is across the street, around the corner by Denny's. Pretty good but I preferred the french bakery.

We mentioned to the hotel that it was my son's 9th birthday and they surprised him with two cans of soda and a box of fancy chocolates, and a nice message, in our room when we checked in. My son was so happy!!! They made his day! I thought that was so thoughtful.

The room was clean, comfortable and smelled nice. There was a fridge, coffee machine with Wolfgang Puck coffee, free internet, a fancy sink... Our room wasn't noisy at all , as some people mentioned theirs were.

We liked the pool and jacuzzi too, even though it felt like it was a little chilly to swim (weather was in the 60s), but my kids still got some usage out of it.

Our room was in a different building than the main building, and we had to walk behind the main building to go out (down the driveaway) to the entrance of the other building. I didn't like that (it was probably a former motel), but what can you do... it's in a different building. Our room also had a small balcony which overlooked the pool area.

We had dinner our first night at the hotel. It was very peaceful, and we had their prix fixe dinner (short ribs but tasted like stew meat). Not so great food, but the atmosphere was very calming and relaxing, with beautiful decor and a nice large fireplace. My kids loved their food and was happy to be there. And after 5 hours of driving from Yosemite, we didn't feel like driving anywhere else.

The Cannery and Fisherman's Wharf is just a 5 minute drive from the hotel. Go check out Monterey Bay Aquarium... very pricey but really beautiful. My kids loved it. Lots of good seafood restaurants are at Fisherman's Wharf. And there is a shopping center (with PF Changs, and many other restaurants) just down the road from the hotel.

This was a verly lovely place to spend the evening. My fiance and I enjoyed the room so much we only left to eat and didn't really explore Monterey. The room was set up for romance right down to the fireplace and wine glasses! We stayed in a king room with a balcony. There is a solid glass door and a screen door to the balcony, which is a nice feature. You can let in the fresh air without the bugs. There is a chaise lounge sitting in front of the fireplace, so you can lie there with your sweetie and enjoy a glass or two of wine. The location of the hotel is very convenient to Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, and the downtown area. An added bonus, they don't charge for parking. The hotel is about 2 miles off the highway, and was pretty quiet. It does get a little noisy in the morning if you're staying on the backside because there is a street that seems to get a lot of traffic early. It was a little annoying but nothing too bad. I might have bought some earplugs if we'd been staying another night. They do serve breakfast for a charge but we didn't eat it so I can't say how good it is. They also have a pool and hot tub, which we also didn't use, but noticed there were people that seemed to be enjoying it. Overall, this was a nice gem of a hotel, and if I'm ever back in Monterey I'll stay there.

Based on Trip Advisor recommendations, we selected this hotel from afar without knowing anything else about it. It was a very good choice and a wonderful hotel experience. Good location within walking distance of Old Monterey and Fisherman’s Wharf (9 blocks?). Very plush rooms and very clean. Hotel staff was very helpful. Would definitely select this hotel again, if/when we return to Monterey.

When it was the Sand Dollar, we loved it and stayed numerous times as it was close to Laguna Seca, safe, clean, and quiet. Now that it's the Abrego, it's even better! Great breakfast for quick get-aways. We stayed in our usual ground floor room facing the pool, but it's been completely renovated! You can avoid the crowds and still get a great dinner in the restaurant if you arrive late as we did. Filet Mignon! Super pizza for the kids too! Walking distance to little Cafe's, French bakeries, a little bit of everything. Bring your bicycles and park the car for the duration of your visit.
If you like off the beaten path eateries, on wharf 2, try Loulou's Griddle in the middle. Closed Tues. and, they close at 2ish pm. Parking is good as we often have a small race trailer to hook and unhook. Rates are very reasonable. Breakfast is plentiful and a good value.

Room Tip: We always stay ground floor, facing the pool. Always SILENT day or night. Next time,we may try the n...

We stayed for 4 nights on a business trip. Our room was small with a tiny balcony. The room was nice looking but we could hear every door open and close, footsteps upstairs and cars outside. Old bones, I guess. Location was good for walking to the bay.

Found the hotel thru Northern California Golf Assoc. Great deal. The hotel has been updated, clean and quiet. Close to the downtown area. I would recommend the hotel to friends and will be returning on next years trip.

Even though this review is almost a year late, I still can recall the amazing time we spent at Hotel Abrego. The hotel is nicely maintained and designed with great taste. The room itself was roomy, with an electric fireplace that we found as a nice treat! It was mid-November last year so not the warmest time of the year so it was nice coming to a fireplace; was home away from home. Bed was very comfortable! The only two complaints was the King Suite didn't have a bathtub, which was not too big of a deal and there was a family with younger kids that we're staying there on the floor above us. Walls were a little thin so we heard them running around, but not too bad. We also liked it because it was off the Monterey Bay grid but still a close distance away with affordable prices. Overall, service was great and we would stay again!
