“Calm oasis with good food, service and views.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Had lunch here.

After mooching through Cannery Row and seeing the hectic and crowded tourist restaurants decided to enter the peace and calm of the Intercontinental for lunch. No problem getting a waterside table. Mrs P chose fish & chips, I had a hamburger.

Mrs P liked her Ling Cod which came in two narrow portions with light crispy batter. My steak burger cooked medium was excellent as were the chips (fries). Also came with a pot of chef’s ‘ketchup’ which was brown – waiter explained it was tomato based with some chillies, Mexican dark chocolate and apple juice. I guess it was the last ingredient that made it so sweet I’d like to try it on vanilla ice-cream.

Torn about wine choice from a good list; the waiter poured as a taste of Sauvignon Blanc we were considering and then we decided to go for a Napa sparkling wine.

We were unhappy with it when poured; luckily the beverage manager was in the restaurant and he immediately confirmed it was corked. He called for a replacement bottle and when we compared the new bottle with the old it was very obvious the first was faulty. He gave us an interesting explanation of the problem of TCA (corkiness) and urged that we should always reject any wine that we are unhappy with. He said that if there was nothing wrong with a wine a diner rejected he’d drink it himself and that he wanted diners to enjoy their time in the restaurant which they couldn’t do if they were not happy with their wine.

All in all, a restful and enjoyable place to have lunch, with attentive professional service and a great view over Monterey Bay.

“Excellent Service and Yummy Meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Good breakfast and yummy dinner. Would come again just to dine here. Our Waitress today was a bit spacey but maybe she had too many tables during breakfast. The View of the ocean is really amazing.

“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

I was staying in the Intercontinental Hotel and decided to eat here. The restaurant lacked much atmosphere - although the guitar payer was great. There was a limited choice menu but the clam chowder was tasty. I had an appetizer salad which was nice.

It took the waiter for ever to serve me my first drink and for some reason they seat you without a menu so the wait seemed even longer!

I went to the bar later and the following day and despite it being in the exact same place, i much preferred it. The waitress was friendlier and service was better. I also preffered the bar menu too.

“Terrible Service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We went to this bar and sat in the outside seating area during happy hou,r but the drinks included in this are very restricted. It took 20 minutes for us to be served as the only two waitresses available both served one very indecisive family.
We had another long wait before we managed to get the bill, which instead of being for two drinks was for a full meal. Again we couldn't get the waitress's attention to query this so we went inside the restaurant. In fairness the waiter we dealt with here, was very apologetic and sorted the problem immediately.

“Awful service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

We stopped here for a drink before dinner. Arrived 10 minutes before the end of happy hour but it was impossible to get any service although they were hardly very busy. By the time the waitress arrived nearly 15 minutes later, happy hour had finished. We ordered drinks and my wife's white wine wasn't properly chilled. It was then really difficult to get the bill so I ended up going around the restaurant trying to find someone. We were finally given the bill but it was someone else's so waited more time getting the correct one. It was a very frustrating experience and the drinks were overpriced. This bar is one to avoid.
