This is one of my all-time favorite places to stay. Since January (I think) the inn has been run by a new manager and he has made it wonderful. As long as he is running the Del Monte, it will succeed. Breakfast each morning was delicious! The inn has more personality than a thousand hotels combined.

We stayed in one of the only rooms with a private bath but the other rooms looked nice too. Everything was very clean and well-kept.

Great!

It seems odd. I emailed this Inn 2 days ago to make a reservation and got no answer. I also called morning, noon and night the next day and only got a tape recorded answering machine. Perhaps the Innkeeper has had a family emergency, but it seems unprofessional to get no answer at all from anyone.

I was looking forward to staying here, based on recent reviews and also because I have stayed here in the past. But if they don't answer email and don't answer the phone, it may be difficult for me and others to stay here at all.

Perhaps this Inn has changed from what it used to be?

“Very pleasant!”

This century-old "bed and breakfast" inn has a delightful staff and charming decor. It's on a busy street, but Rooms 2 and 3 on the second floor were not noisy. The beds were comfortable and both rooms had sinks, with spacious bathrooms just across the hall. Major plans for remodeling (now underway) include adding bathrooms to each bedroom, since most Americans aren't used to "shared bathrooms."

“Downstairs Room - bright and noisy”

Del Monte Beach Inn

I stayed in the downstairs room that had 2 double beds and a bathroom. The room was very cute in its decor. It also had peeling wallpaper in the corner etc.-the decor was a little shabby or run down was just run down enough so we could laugh about it, not be bothered by it. The downstairs room faces the street so there was the noise of cars driving by- I had to wear earplugs but my friend was fine without them. Also there is a window above the door into the hallway and the hallway is lit at night which made the room a little bright for me--I like sleeping in a very dark room, so I had to wear a blindfold to sleep. I didn't find out until I arrived that the room had a kitchenette. It is hard to find the hotel when driving by at night because it just looks like a large house on the road and its parking lot is behind it. It took us a couple of tries to find it. I suggest looking for it in the daytime.
Overall the place was fine. I can't comment on the breakfast because I left very early in the morning. I would stay here again because it is a lot cheaper than other hotels in Monterey and it's not a dump despite being a lot cheaper. From the web page of the hotel, I believe it is more of a hostel than a hotel, and my expectations for a hostel are lower than a hotel b/c hostels don't have the amenities that many hotels do.

This was the best place we stayed at in our 4 weeks of travelling in the USA. The Del Monte Beach Inn was clean, well sittuated and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend staying here, especially since it was so well priced.

It's easy to drive by and miss this place but make an effot to stop here and stay at least one night.
