“Very average and not what we had expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014

We chose the Hyatt Regency because it was large enough to have guests stay for our wedding. The customer service was amazing. My husband and I felt like they truly valued us as a customer and wanted our business. We felt dissatisfied about the quality of the rooms and the quality of the overall stay. We stayed in a standard two full size bedroom. It needs to be updated and was not worth the money we spent. I would have rather stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. We then, for our wedding night, stayed in the Monterey Suite. Though it was large and had two bathrooms and a sitting room, again the quality was not enough. A suite is supposed to feel lavish and we should feel great in the room. We did not feel either. This was our first time paying for a suite at the Hyatt and I will not do it again. I would rather stay at the Hampton Inn or even an Embassy Suites. Both have felt more clean and of a high quality for half the price.

Room Tip: You could hear the footsteps above you so don't pick a bottom floor room. We were paying for a 5...

I love the Hyatt hotel chain. But I have mix feelings with this one. Love the rooms, golf course, even the knuckle bar. But the front desk service lacks in efficiency and tactful behavior. I was helping a friend twice, each time the person at the front desk was impatience with my business partner. Part of me wanted to explain to the person the rules of proper protocol. Rolling eyes is bad form. The other services were great. The convention hall center was very well managed. The breakfast buffet provides an excellent array of options. Sports fans will love the knuckle bar.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor. Earlier with travel bags and golf equipment.

Spent 4 nights at a dance event and we arrived exhausted. We noticed a bit of noise from the road that was fairly close and the staff moved us to the other side of the hall, which was substantially better (nearly no noises at all). Also - this particular event has dancing into the early morning hours that was to DIE FOR ! We will be back at this property every year ! Thank you JOE.
Housekeeping: Nelia was friendly and helpful. She was fast, efficient, and made sure that the room was exceptional in every way. Rare to find staff that treats the ordinary in such an extraordinary way. Thank you NELIA.

The area is beautiful: Pebble Beach, Carmel, and lots to see and do. Strongly recommend asking for a quiet room.

Room Tip: Get the most quiet room for the best relaxation - but most every room (other than building 26 facing...

Dear Timothy421,

We are thrilled you enjoyed the annual dance event. It has been at our hotel for 20 years now and we also look forward to it returning every January.

Thank you for your kind remarks about our wonderful team and especially Joe and Nelia who are wonderful. They take a lot of pride in their hotel and they will appreciate your sentiments.

I hope next year you have enough energy after all the dancing to enjoy more of the surrounding area.

We look forward to your return.

All the best,

Steve

The hotel is a bit off the beaten path, but it is a short drive to anywhere you would want to go. While the immediate surroundings are not too scenic, once you are on the grounds it is very calm and pleasant.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable. They are well-appointed, and the beds, bathrooms, and furnishings are quite nice. The view to the golf course is very pleasant.

Service is great--all employees were friendly and professional.

If there were a complaint, it would be the lack of climate control (though this is typical for the area.) Even the (unseasonably warm) winter temperatures caused the room to get uncomfortably warm and stuffy, though with time and open window and full-force ceiling fan cooled it down.

All in all, a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one away from the highway, but expect strong sun.

Dear FCT3,

I appreciate you taking the time to post such a comprehensive review of our hotel. I am glad you enjoyed the central location and 22 acre horizontal layout over a traditional high-rise hotel. As you stated, it is very calming whether you are strolling the grounds or enjoying a drink on one of the patios.

Thank you for pointing out all the guest room amenities and the wonderful view of the adjacent Del Monte golf course.

It is a pleasure working with our associates each day and I am so glad you recognized their professionalism and friendly demeanor. I know your kind words mean a lot to them.

You are correct that very few hotels on the Monterey peninsula actually offer air conditioning in their rooms because of the mild, year-round climate. We have installed air conditioning in many of our rooms and will be completing the project this year so should the need arise, you will have that option available.

We are so glad you had an enjoyable stay and look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

All the best,

Steve

This is a great location as log as you are happy to drive into town. We stayed one night and appreciated the fact it was tucked away and quiet. We also enjoyed the pool and spa and it nice. I am to sure if any of the rooms have nice views, ours was of a parking lot but that would have been true of our entire building as there was parking on both sides.

My wife and I recently went down to Monterey for our 1st anniversary and we expecting to have a great time celebrating 12 months of marriage only to return to our room from dinner to find EVERYTHING stolen. Both phones, both wallets, ipad, purse, sunglasses etc. After contacting security and the manager we asked if we could get some money to get home, we needed money for gas for the drive home. They actually refused our request and we had to stay the night with our anniversary ruined and feeling very unsafe. We finally managed to explain to them the next morning we had no means of getting home so they relented. They gave me some bs excuse saying they did not want to give us money because it would look bad for insurance purposes!!

Little did I know this would not matter because our insurance claim was DENIED!! They told me, "There was no negligence on the Hotel's part." HOW?!

The reason for the title is that in our hotel room there is a sliding door that leads to the golf course out back. When my wife and I reached the hotel we immediately went out to our dinner reservations so we were unable to even check the door. According to the hotel it is possible for "the help" to leave these doors unlocked from the outside!!! This means someone is able to enter the room from the outside!

I would be very very very cautious in ever visiting this place. If you and your family value safety and your belongings do NOT stay at this hotel!!

The Monterey Police Department investigated this matter. They recovered the lost items and arrested an individual with no affiliation to the hotel. The police concluded the loss occurred off property.

The Hyatt Regency in Monterey is fine: the room was clean, the front desk folks are pleasant, and it is well located (near downtown and the wharf). However, if you're used to staying at nicer hotels, this will feel like an economy-rate hotel (the design of the outlying buildings in particular looks very EconoLodge). The room was a bit warm, but the evening was cool and so the outside temps might have combatted some of the overheating that other reviewers have mentioned. Great launching pad for drives around the area, but I suspect there are many nicer hotels that can boast the same. We won't be returning, but if you're looking for an economical option for the area, this is a good pick.
