“Homey, comfy, but still pampered!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

My boyfriend and I went to Monterey just to get away from Sacramento for the extended holiday weekend. We wanted a nice place to stay but didn't care for a big hotel room so he found the Jabberwok Inn and booked it! What a gem! We booked the Toves Room. When we got there, the owners were actually out on their own vacation but the lady they hired to look after their inn was very welcoming. The only mishap of the whole experience would be that she originally checked us into the wrong room and rushed us out as we were unpacking when the rightful renters of that room showed up. But I have to say that our actual room was so much nicer than that first room even though the Toves is cheaper. The layout was much nicer. The hot tub in the Toves is situated in the wall right behind the door so it's almost hidden nicely but the other room's hot tub seemed smacked down in the middle of the room's layout. The Tove also had a small separate dressing room that extended to the closet (also less awkwardly placed in comparison to that first room, the Mome Rath) and bathroom. I also loved that the Toves had a back door that led to a small section of the garden that was all ours with a little table and two chairs. The gas fireplace in our room was a nice touch as well as the bottle of sherry they have in every room and around the inn. I really can't say enough about how wonderfully charming this bed and breakfast is. The hosts and staff, the aesthetics, gardens, amenities, breakfast, hors devours, table top games and brain teasers, atmosphere... I recommend this inn wholeheartedly as well!! We'll have to go back!

My fiance and I have celebrated our anniversary in Monterey 2 years in a row now and our last trip we stayed at the Jabberwock. We stayed in the Mome Rath room and it was the cutest little room with a comfy, large bed, big jacuzzi tub and a great view of the bay. The fireplace was the perfect addition to this cute little room. John and Dawn were very welcoming along with Sharice and other staff. There was always tea or hot cocoa available. Wine and d'oeuvres at 5:00 and they were always excellent. Then on top of all these wonderful things they have an entire library of restaurant menus for you to browse and they''ll even make your dinner reservation for you. They are so welcoming and pleasant here, I can't wait to come back. Oh and wait til you try the JabberJuice!! amazing!!

Room Tip: Mome Rath room on the 2nd floor was perfect. Large King size bed, jacuzzi, sink and water closet.

The Jabberwock Inn is an experience. From the gardens, to the decorations and the delicious spread put on each morning by Dawn and John for breakfast. We stayed in the Toves room that even came with a gas fireplace! So cool! It took us a while to figure out the mattress (adjustable comfort level) to find the next day housekeeping had cranked it right back up to rock hard. I imagine though this is to make the bed look its best and was easily changed back. The wifi was limited in our room but there are enough comfortable areas around the living areas where access was good. Really loved that Dawn and John had an array of restaurant menus and local knowledge to help us decide where to eat. Would definitely stay here again!

The reviews on trip advisor convinced us to stay at this place - even though when we booked the only room available was the smaller one with the washroom down the hall. Going with our gut we booked this room and certainly glad we did. John and Dawn make this place a "home away from home" - though I certainly do not enjoy the kind of wine and appetizers every night at home that I enjoyed here. Also appreciated the fact that they have, on hand, the menus of all the restaurants in Monterey they would recommend - very helpful in deciding where to eat. And, yes, the washroom is down the hall - but this turned out to be no big deal. We were the only ones using it and it was a great washroom! Be aware that the Jabberwock is at the top of a big hill (though most things in town are at the top or bottom of some hill). The pluses here is a great view - especially from the glassed in terrace where the wine and appetizers are provided. While we had no issues with the hill, I think it might be more problematic for older people who do not have a car. Re: car - we also appreciated the parking at the back of the property.

Finally, a lodging I can wholeheartedly recommend. This establishment was run by two very gracious hosts who really "get it". From hors d'oeuvres and wine in the evening as well as homemade cookies and milk in the afternoon , they also provide robes and lap blankets in the rooms. John did a thorough walk thru of all the inn had to offer including 24 hour access to beverages and information on how everything operated. They list the guests names on a blackboard along with their state/countries of origin which is a great ice breaker. Dawn is very conscientious about taking special diet requests for preparation of the breakfast. I am a vegan and felt she really went out of her way to create a nice breakfast for me. Those guests with no dietary concerns had beautiful little egg soufflés along with fresh berry croissants that looked wonderful. The location is three blocks above cannery row and the recreation trail so you are very well located. My room had a fireplace and spa tub with lovely views. Bed and linens were very comfortable and I really felt these hosts went out of their way to make guests feel at home. I'll stay here again.

Room Tip: I was on the second floor, you may wish to select a room facing the bay.

While a on a quick weekend trip to San Francisco, we stayed one evening at the Jabberwock Inn, and after meeting John and Dawn, getting a quick tour and then enjoying wine and hor'derves, we wanted to stay there the entire weekend! Wonderful hospitality, comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast, a great start to an amazing weekend!!! Would definitely recommend this b&b to anyone needing a place to stay in Monterey! Great location too!

We have just stayed at the Jabberwock Bed and Breakfast. We just thought it was great!
Value for money is excellent - soft comfy beds, good bathrooms, plenty of space to relax.
Breakfast is a delight - just come with a big appetite!
Loved this nice, interesting place.
Highly recommend!
