“It was everything I imagined!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I stayed at the clement this weekend, In a king size be partial ocean view room it was very clean, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable with a featherbed and down comforter. The service was amazing all the employees were very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect, right in the heart of cannery row by the ocean. The view from our room was great it faced the courtyard and ocean. We will defiantly be coming back!

The hotel is right in the middle of Cannery Row between the aquarium, the restaurants and stores and right on the water. Park the car and walk to everything. Rooms are beautiful, modern, clean and with great beds. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Hotel was a little pricey but the location is amazing and the hotel is modern luxury. There is a charge for parking also.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the ocean views...

I was hesitant to post this review because it runs counter to most of the reviews on here but here goes...this was a great hotel in a great location but on the "Intercontinental" standard, I am just not sure what the hype is all about. Perhaps if I stayed at the other hotels in Monterey as a point of comparison, I would understand better what makes this hotel so great. This was my first stay in Monterey so I have no other reference point.

The hotel is very pretty in a stark, modern kind of way. The rooms were nicely-appointed, clean and comfortable. The location can't be beat...if you are staying on the ocean side. We got stuck in a room on the other side of the street, near the parking garage. This resulted in us feeling cut off from the main hotel and definitely negatively impacted the whole "Intercontinental" atmosphere. If I had known we would end up in the hotel hinterlands, I would have paid for an upgrade to stay in the main hotel facing the ocean.

Having stayed at the Intercontinental in Dallas and also in Paradise Valley/Scottsdale, I expected quite a bit more in terms of customer service and pampering. The Intercontinental Montelucia Resort & Spa in Scottsdale is absolutely amazing and ranks as my most favorite resort stay EVER so I was eagerly looking forward to trying this affiliated property. However, the reservation clerk who took my call as we were driving in seemed very impatient and disinterested when speaking to me. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, I was trying to request a room away from the parking garage but he very curtly informed me I would have to save my requests for when I checked in. Not a great start. And where did we end up? Close to the parking garage!

We tried the happy hour in the "C" bar fronting the ocean. The views were spectacular and the happy hour specials are pretty incredible for this type of high-end property. We really enjoyed the happy hour with the exception of the stand-offish bartender who was more interested in the game on TV than in us. Fortunately, the views and the happy hour value overcame the impersonal, inattentive service.

The work out facility is pretty basic but met our needs...I don't understand why they even did a pool since the tiny "lap" pool on site is so small there is no real use for it, even for laps.

Bottom line: we enjoyed our stay, the property is in a fantastic location, the rooms were clean and comfortable but the service was pretty impersonal and overall does not live up to the "Intercontinental" standard I have experienced at other Intercontinental properties. If you book, upgrade to stay in the main building, ocean side to get the full effect of staying there, otherwise you'll just be staying in a generic 3.5-4 star hotel. That is what I will try next time!

Room Tip: Upgrade to ocean view to make this stay worthwhile and don't get stuck in the building on the ot...

We stayed for just one night, but enjoyed our stay immensely. The rooms were well equipped and the property overall was soothing. We could open our window and listen to the sea and waves.

We liked the zen garden and bonsai tree in the room, our only amenity wish was that the sleeping area might have an extra box of tissues so we didn't have to walk to the bathroom. The beds were a bit too soft for our liking - but that is our preference not a negative complaint.

We especially liked the reading room area and the outside fire pit and lounge chairs. The happy hour small plate prices were exceptionally reasonable and the food tasty and well presented. We thought we would dine elsewhere but enjoyed the ambiance too much to leave.

Breakfast was pricy but the Crab and Spinach Benedict is well worth it.

We didn't have a chance to use the lap pool - small as it is, think one lane if that, - but it was in a sunny location and looked refreshing.

We will be back.

Room Tip: The ocean view or partial ocean views are lovely. The rear rooms are a good walk from the front. See...

Our company of 60 people recently had a celebration day in Monterey. We chose The Clement to host our lunch and it was fabulous. We reserved the courtyard outside and we really lucked out with the weather because the courtyard had wonderful views of the ocean and Monterey Bay. The food was good, hot and ready as we arrived. We were on a tight schedule and it was relief that our employees could step right off the bus and sit down in front of delicious food within 5 minutes of arriving. I thought all the food was great, but many of our employees noted the chicken and potato gnocci as being excellent.

Jaeson was an outstanding help during our check in process and during the length of our stay at the property! Full stars for him! The InterContinental The Clement is a fabulous property and there really isn't anywhere to fault it. Rooms are top notch, the view is incredible, and the staff is outstanding. We'll be back!

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the bay are incredible!
