We discovered the Goose & Turrets because it is located 1 small block up from our brother's home. However, he left the area over 6 years ago, and we still consider it one of the best B & Bs we have ever had the pleasure to stay overnight in. You will enjoy the incredible breakfasts cooked up by Emily and Raymond and get to know the other 6 people sharing your experience. Please understand I've stayed in 5 star hotels & eaten in 5 star restaurants all over the world. I'm more than a little finnicky about my food, drink & coffee, and "do not suffer fools gently".
You will walk into an old charming building into a lovely living room filled with history and interesting items in every nook & cranny. There are books you can borrow on the shelves if you didn't pack your own. Each of the rooms has a different theme, and all are charming. But the most enticing aspect of your entire stay has got to be your host & hostess. They are worldly, brillant, and wonderfully attentive. You are in for a real treat if you are lucky enough to spend any time talking with Raymond & Emily.
There is tea searved in the afternoon, and a special treat made by Emily on your pillows in the evening.
I cannot imagine anyone staying there once, who won't find some excuse to have to keep returning again & again. If you do, it will start feeling like home...only better because the cooking & cleaning will be done by these 2 lovely folk. Please tell them "hey" from Soni & Irv.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- The Goose & Turrets is an old-fashioned B&B where you are pampered with comfortable beds and generous four-course breakfasts. There is also an afternoon tea of freshly brewed teas from around the world accompanied by savouries and sweets - in a setting of lively conversation. The house was built in 1907 as a grocery, post office, and town hall. After its long and checkered history, the Hoche-Mongs converted it into a bed and breakfast in 1983 and have been welcoming happy guests ever since. It sits in an acre of gardens which contains an Appalachian courting swing, two hammocks, and a bocce ball pitch. Montara Beach is a half-mile walk away as is a terrific Peruvian restaurant with a huge view. Nearby one may fish, kayak, go whale watching, aero-sightseeing, beach combing, hiking, biking, antiquing, shopping in quaint stores at Princeton Harbor and in Half Moon Bay, explore Montara Mountain or go down the coast to Pescadero's famous restaurant and market or continue to Año Nuevo to encounter mammoth elephant seals. On a foggy day, you may choose to just sit by the fire and read and listen to classical music. It's a good place for adventure and for complete lethargy. ... more less
