“Terrible Stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2011

I just stayed at the Doubletree in Monrovia, CA for a 5-day business trip. The front desk workers are cold and rude, and act as though offering a warm cookie upon check-in is supposed to make this behavior go unnoticed. The room is clean, though medicre, with a hand held shower nozzle that spews little water and a heater that vibrates loudly and makes noise. On your day of checkout, the hotel deactiviates your card, so even though check-out time is noon, you cannot get your belongings in the car without having to have your card re-activiated at the front desk. Who deactivates your room key before check out time? That should be illegal. When all this was mentioned to the fron desk and the 800 number no one cared and not even one apology ensued. Horrible hotel. Guests should try their luck at the Courtyard Marriott down the street which has been in Monrovia for decades. I know since I grew up in Monrovia. I regret my Doubletree stay immensely.

Stayed here recently for business for six days. Location is great and walking distance to lots of restaurants. Easy access to 210 freeway, Pasade a and downtown LA.
Downside of hotel is that rooms are not very clean and half the advertized television stations are not available - seriously no ESPN2 when it is on the channel guide.

I stayed one night, and came home with about a half a dozen bites. I am positive they came from this location as no one at home has bites, and I didn't have them before I went there.

(I will go on the national bedbug registry after I post this, and notify them also.)

This hotel is designed in a modern motif which is pretty, but impractical: I needed to do some work but there is not a real desk in the room, just a "shelf" sized table that is barely big enough to put my laptop on. Nothing else could fit on it. There are no bedside tables, but just a wall shelf between the 2 beds, barely big enough for the phone, alarm clock and coffee maker. (What the heck is the coffee maker doing there?) I sleep with a C-pap, and had a challenging time situating it on the shelf.

The beds are really low to the ground which might "look stylish" to some, but they are hard to get out of. I have a bad back, and my wife has arthritis in her back - but fortunately she was not there as it would have been terribly hard for her to get up and out of the bed.

The bathroom has a modern sink which again looks "pretty" but leaves little counter space. Very impractical. And what counter space there was, was mostly taken up with their towels. The faucet is very high and when turned on, the water drops a great distance to the sink and causes splashing onto the counter and the towels.

There are more things I could tell you about, but these are the most important.

I go to this area frequently on business, and will NOT be staying here again.

Just returned from a week at the Doubletree.
Booked on priceline, so I got a very good rate (otherwise the value wouldn't have been very good at the published rate.
Bed was plush and comfortable.
Lots of restaurants within walking distance, dozens more within a few miles.
Room service is over-priced (as it always is), but really not a problem with so many other restaurants near by.
Cookies were warm and good.

It's funny when I see some of the places I've been based tripadvisor... Newark and Monrovia? Dang. Well, I always look for Doubletrees (love Fess Parker in Santa Barbara and Berkeley Marina is also good), as they tend to be solid. Somehow those cookies they have always make everything right!

I read some of the reviews for this hotel before staying there. I was a little hesitant about staying after seeing the reviews that stated that the hotel had bedbugs. I decided to go after some serious thought - afterall as unfortunate as it might be right now, there seems to be a bedbug epidemic going on right now, and it seems to be affecting so many hotels. So putting that issue to rest - I didn't find any bedbugs in my room.

This was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at. The bed was the most COMFORTABLE bed I've ever slept in - it was perfect. It was very quiet and I didn't hear any noise from other rooms at all while I was there. The staff was professional and very friendly. There were beautiful mountain views from my hotel window too.. just lovely.

The only thing I have to say about the cleanliness of the room was that the carpet had a couple of stains and the ceiling had a very small repair that was needed.

My stay at this hotel was very nice and I definitely recommend it highly!

Great location to Rose Bowl, in town for the weekend to watch Real Madrid and L.A. Galaxy soccer match. Front dest personnel were courtious and friendly, upon arriving and check-out. Rooms were clean, beds were very comfortable, and pillows were extra soft. Personnel working in Elements Restaurant were very hospitable and went out of their way to serve you. Breakfast was alot more than expected. A couple of downturns, the iron would not stay on, and bathroom door should extneded tracks to keep it from swinging open. Should have asked for a refrigerator/microwave. Overall, I will definitely book our stay here next year for our planned vacation to all Southern California attractions. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay. God Bless.
