Clean, Great staff.! If this hotel was in the Fla Keys with a dock I would never leave...
The housekeeping sees all the corners! Belen makes whatever breakfast she has ingredients for. The front desk Rachel and DiDi always prepared. The Modjeska restaraunt a wow for a small hotel. The ribeye is enough for 2.

Stayed here for a night when visiting the Improv at Irvine. Good, clean, spacious room. Very good service! The breakfast was nothing special though. We did use the pool next door, the 1 minute walk was no problem. Too bad they didnt have a bar at the pool. Would recommend this hotel when visiting the area, Irvine, or even Orange.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights just as a quick kid-free getaway. We booked using Hotwire, so really chose this based on the value and not much else. This hotel is adjacent to and shares a parking lot (and pool) with Ayres Suites. Not sure what the difference is between the two, but the guy who checked us in just said that the Hotel and Spa side is nicer and newer...I'm thinking the Suites may have bigger rooms, but I really have no idea.

We were pleasantly surprised with how nice and new this hotel was - not sure when it was built but it is VERY clean and modern. We had a double room with 2 queens because that is what Hotwire defaults to when you book through them - we generally would change rooms to a king, but they were full the night we checked in. No big deal, I don't mind having my own bed! The room was spacious with a separate lounge area with a desk, couch, chair, and it's own TV. We didn't actually ever use that area, but it would be great if you are travelling with kids and need a place to set up a crib or pack n play (or pull out sofa for older kids). Best things about this hotel, besides the cleanliness and overall quality of the rooms, was that parking, WiFi, and breakfast are all included. The breakfast is nothing to write home about - typical hotel breakfast with hot food and a made to order omelette station.

The bad things about this hotel (and the reason I took off one star): location. This hotel is located right off the 241 freeway, which, if you are not familiar with Orange County freeways, is a toll road. It's in a great spot to get from the 91 to Irvine and anywhere in between, but only if you want to pay for it (no cash toll, you have to go online and pay within 48 hours or face a hefty ticket). We did not want to pay for the 241 every time we wanted to venture out of Mission Viejo (which was often; there's not a whole lot to do in MV), so we were forced to drive all the way down Los Alisos/El Toro to hook up with the 5. Took about 15 minutes to get from the 5 to our hotel every time, got a little tedious. This hotel isn't really near anything at all - not the beach or any other typical SoCal attractions. It's a popular business hotel, which makes sense as Irvine is a huge hub for tech companies so most people who stay here probably just use the 241. If you're travelling to sightsee, however, you may want to look for a better deal closer to the 5 or just in a different area of OC.

The only other problem I had with this room was the A/C unit. It was not a central unit, but one of the old school wall units under the window. It was controlled by a thermostat, but it was so loud and the fan blew so hard. It was not adjustable, either (couldn't set the fan to low), so if you have the bed closest to the unit, you may freeze all night. It was unseasonably warm in the area the time we were there, so turning it off completely was not an option. I would expect such a new hotel to have a better A/C situation.

Overall, this is a very nice hotel and we enjoyed our stay. I would, however, carefully consider the location before booking depending on what your plans are for visiting the area.

Room Tip: The hotel is positioned in a triangle around a courtyard, if you're concerned about traffic nois...

The room was amazing, beautiful and large, the staff very helpful. The breakfast was average-no bacon! The second morning, we went out to a restaurant instead. The main thing I was disappointed with is that I thought it was a hotel and spa. I expected a pool and jacuzzi area, not just a small room for massages and beauty treatment that seemed to be closed. There was a pool, but it was at the Ayres Suites next door. Maybe I should have stayed there. I guess I expected more of a resort feel-it was just a regular hotel with nice rooms.

When in the country, I travel to So. California every other month to visit with my brother, sister and friends. It's always special to me, as I grew up on the Orange County beaches...but some time ago, I abandoned the beaches when it came to hotels. "Why?" you might ask. Well, I'll tell you. So many of the beach hotels have become tired and worn out, and far too pricey for what they offer.

Also, there's a secret that only a guy like me who grew up on the Orange County beaches can tell you: if you want sun in abundance, it won't happen at the beach. You see, with the exception of winter months, sunny mornings are a rarity at the So. California beaches, and "June Gloom" appears most mornings...into the afternoon. Furthermore, in the winter the beach is a good ten degrees cooler. If you want sun, you'll need to be at least 3 to 5 miles from the beaches. I still go the beaches, mind you, but I don't stay there.

Ayres Hotel & Spa in Mission Viejo, on the other hand, is far enough inland that it's nearly always sunny, much warmer AND they've a lovely pool with a terrific view.

But that's not all... the rooms (suites, really) are terrific, and are furnished with both comfortable beds, microwave, and refrigerator. The front desk staff are always friendly, professional and helpful... Tania, Martin, and Craig always go out of their way to make our stay helpful. The full breakfast is terrific and Belen the breakfast manager and cook always brightens your days with a smile. And, it doesn't stop there... the housekeeping staff is also interested in your comfort and keep the facility is spotless with a smile.

Now, some whine about being far away from the freeways, but that's a matter of perspective. Actually, the US 5 Freeway only about 5 miles distant, and highways leading to the US 5 speed you there at 45 to 50 MPH, and there are so many choices with respect to shopping AND restaurants nearby, that it's much more comfortable away from the congestion that occurs when the hotel is atop the freeway.

I highly recommend Ayres Hotel & Spa in Mission Viejo.

i was a walk-in and wanted a room for 3 people. the only bed configurations they had were a king and a sofa bed, or two queens and a loveseat that did not pull out. no rollaways.
i opted for the king and sofabed. linens for that bed were sent up right away.
the sofa was in a separate area with its own TV. the king bed faced the toilet when the bathroom door was open..not the most inviting view. that tv was hung on a wall way off to the left, so kind of awkward for laying in bed and watching tv that was.
there was only 1 remote so we called the front desk. they said there was only 1 remote per room.
huh?
2 very separate tv's, and only 1 had a remote? (it would not operate both tvs). tried to manually turn it on...no luck.
whatever.

took a shower and got all comfy and thought we would order some room service, as we had been told that was available in lieu of their restaurant being closed on sundays.
could not locate any hotel information, no directory, no room service menu, nothing. called the front desk again and she said she had a take out menu she could run up to us. take out? what happened to room service? turns out there was some kind of restaurant across the parking lot or something that was open til 9PM, and it was now 8:45. we were not dressed to go anywhere. so we didn't eat, though we were really hungry.
the other people wanted to also take showers but there were not enough clean towels and sundries for everyone, so we dealt with that, too.

the room was very far away from the elevator, kind of in a big triangle around the inner courtyard. no pool that i could see but there is an attached spa (where you will pay for everything).

overall, being an independent hotel in southern orange county should have a LOT more going for it, especially food and television issue.
could have stayed in 2 separate rooms at a la quinta inn down the road for the same money. and had a pool.

Room Tip: ask in advance about extra things for extra people in your room.

Dear Colleen S,

Thank you for your candid review regarding your stay with us as I do appreciate your honest feedback. I apologize that the configuration of our rooms and hotel did not meet your expectations. We try our hardest to provide a convenient and comfortable stay for each of our guests. It saddens me that this was not the case for you on this occasion. Please know that there is indeed a pool at our hotel however I do apologize that there was confusion in the location of it. Our front desk staff is always more than willing to assist with extra towels or sundries and I am disappointed to see that you did not give us a chance to at least amend that frustrating detail of your stay. Again, I do apologize sincerely that we did not exceed your expectations. I hope your faith will be restored in us one day to stay again in the future. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you and for all of this helpful feedback.

Best Regards,

Great place in a nice, quiet residential area. There's a shopping center right next to it with a Vons and CVS. There's also a freeway for quick access to Irvine and the I-5 (small toll road fee). Reception desk service was prompt and pleasant. Room was ready and clean - includes refrigerator and microwave. Complimentary american buffet style breakfast with everything you could possibly want is excellent. Belen, in particular, was extremely pleasant and helpful. Checkout was also very easy. Will stay here again the next time I am in the area.
