“Don't Bother”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

This place is old. It had a facelift a few years ago but is showing its age again. Furniture is dated in the rooms, bathrooms are small, lighting is poor, desk & chair are uncomfortable. Everything in the room is worn down - wallpaper, chairs, etc. Rooms are noisy. The breakfast is served in the bar (yet they have a perfectly good restaurant sitting idle that you have to walk through to get to the bar) and the chairs there are horrible - you literally sink down to about 12 inches off the ground - not comfortable! Funny how this place always has rooms available when everything else in San Jose is sold out....hmmm....spend your money elsewhere.

I travel 12~15 times a year, this is the first time that the hotel made me to leave a negative feedback. Honestly I Disagree its a 3.5 star hotel (should be 3).
1. We can hear everything from other rooms - i.e. People were walking around, opening the drawers, sliding the closet doors, taking showers, using coffee machines.....etc. My entire family kept waking up every hour.
2. They had no regard for our personal comfort. Their squeaky bed spring probably need to be repaired. It made shrill sound in the middle of the night when my husband or my kid moved. And the worst part – the housekeeper knocked the door by 8:30am
3. We stayed at 2nd floor, and the ceiling was leaking near the toilet, which made the carpet all wet in the next morning.
4. The bathroom is very small, compare to other hotels around the area.
5. Internet speed is slow
6. The latest checkout time is 12:30, and they will charge you after that. Other hotels are flexible and normally by 1pm. I explained that we didn’t have good sleep, so we had to wake up very late.
7. Hotel staff is not adequate. After the complaints I made in next morning, her face was cold and not empathetic. I was surprised and looked at her with my silence, and then she goes “Sorry, there is nothing I can help, you can call our manager on Monday”.
8. The lobby automatic sliding door needs maintenance and keeps from making weird sounds.

It’s not a delight experience at all and I won’t return to this hotel.

This was our third time at this hotel. First two times we were upgraded (at no charge) to a mini-suite. It had a separate sitting area with TV and computer desk. Bedroom area had a second TV. Third time we had their basic room which was just as specious. It still had a full size sofa and desk. Basic room did not have a mini fridge like suite. But staff was kind enough to bring a mini fridge to our room. The rooms and hotel does show its age. There are a lot of scuffs on doors, etc. However, the hotel is VERY clean even though things have been worn with age. Their pool area must have been renovated and is so inviting. Small pool for toddlers, heated large pool, and large jacuzzi. Free internet throughout property. Free shuttle within a certain mile radius. Our only concerns have been at times, some staff appear indifferent. Parking can be a challenge. It appears they only have two luggage carts in lobby. If you aren't lucky enough to get one, you have to make several trips. I understand how an abundance of carts would look tacky in nice lobby though. But the inconveniences we experience are minor. Again, we enjoy the spaciousness of their rooms and clean property regardless of its age.

This was the worst customer service experience in the recent memory. This is quite an expensive hotel for what you get so it is kind of a given that you will be treated well as a customer.

We had a 2 day business conference in this hotel. I mistakenly left my jacket in the conference room and called the reception as soon as I arrived home (about an hour later). She said that the facilities manager has left for the day (it was about 6 pm) and she would make sure that the person attending to that conference room takes note of it. She also gave me the phone number for the facilities manager and I left a message explaining the situation and a call-back number.

No one called back. I called the facility manager a few times but did not receive a response. On one of the follow-up calls, a receptionist said that she was told they did not find anything !!! It is absolutely amazing to me that hotels like these have decent star ratings.

Stay away if you have any other choice.

I was fortunate enough to stay at the BH again and as usual it is a amazing experience. From the staff right down to the location. They even have a complimentary shuttle. I happened to be going in through the rear entrance (with alot of stuff in my hand) and someone from facilities helped me with my stuff. Totally not his job, but always willing to give that helping hand! The location is great, near many restaurants, movies, the mall..

Room Tip: Be upfront about what you are looking for and what makes you happy. They are not mind reader, but th...

I stayed only one night. The rate was fair. The room was not small but I think it need renewal. The bathroom was old-fashion. However, so far everything was ok when I considered its rate if I did not see the dirt in the sink. Except the sink, overall hygiene was alright, but you know I did not feel comfortable because of this. May be it was my bad luck.

I nearly gave this a rating of 3 (my wife thinks that's appropriate) but some strong pluses balance out shortcomings, most of which are easy to fix. This was our second stay in as many years..

The pluses are spacious, clean rooms with nice pictures and furnishings, a flat screen TV, great staff at the front counter as well as good housekeeping. About the last, unlike some places they are not stingy about replenishing toiletries and supplies. They now have good (and free) WiFi in rooms (not just the public areas) which is better and more convenient than just the wired access in our last stay.

The gym is reasonably large with plenty of aerobic machines including 5 treadmills as well as free weights, a couple of weight benches and exercise balls. It could be made better by adding one or two multi-purpose power-training exercise machines, and adding some light free weights (dumbbells, 2.5 and 5lbs) below their current minimum of 10lbs. The outdoor pool looked nice though we didn't use it.

The beds were a little soft but "okay" according to my wife to whom these are a priority. The towel rod near the sink with the facetowels came off when I reached for a towel the first time, but the front desk had it fixed quite promptly after I reported this. The bathroom sink bowl apparently had a couple of cracks a few inches long that had been fixed with a white sealant which was quite noticeable. A small bathroom floor tile near the toilet bowl was cracked in many places. The carpet in front of the hotel elevator on the 2nd and 3rd floor was stained - the same as we had noticed in our earlier stay 2 years ago. Overall the management seemed to be trying to skimp on upkeep and renovations, while making up with service.

They charge for use of room phone not just for local calls but toll free ones as well though in an era of cell phones this didn't bother us. We missed the lack of fridge and microwave in the rooms that we find in many hotels. Should be easy to supply these, except perhaps that they're trying to drive business to their vending machines and restaurant. Bottled water (29oz) placed in room was priced at $6 each. Looks like they are trying to maximize revenues through "extras" and it gets a bit much. Plenty of free parking outside, though spaces are rather narrow.

Overall we liked our stay.

While it seems there many aspects of your stay that were enjoyable, we are disappointed to hear that certain areas did not live up to your expectations. Hearing from our guests' perspective of areas that need improvement allows us to determine exactly where we are succeeding and where we need to concentrate our efforts and for that we are grateful. For future stays, we would be happy to assist you in finding the perfect room to meet your needs, including one of our suites which include a mini-fridge and microwave. We appreciate the time you took to share your comments and thoughts and we look forward to welcoming you back to The Beverly Heritage Hotel very soon.
