“Good place except.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

If you want to stay somewhere closer to the airport, this place will be a good spot if you don't mind the train noise. It's a bit far from San Francisco and if you don't mind willing to spend some money on BART to get there as they charge on zone distance. It's well maintain and very quiet place at night. Staff was friendly and the shuttle driver! Biggest disappointed is their breakfast! All you get is pre-packaged food from outsource and the only fresh was the fruit and coffee. Go elsewhere for breakfast! Apart from that it's a nice, safe place to stay!

Travelling on business, you sometimes select your accommodations quickly and based on price. This location was so well appointed and provided everything I needed as a business traveler in the San Francisco area. The restaurant was well beyond our expectations and the shuttle bus to the airport was very convenient.

We participated in the park and fly program-- two weeks of secure parking for free if we stay there one night. It was extremely well organized, and all went extremely smoothly, thankfully. We stayed one night, and the shuttle picked us up at the ungodly hour of 4 am. We returned exactly two weeks later, they picked us up from the airport and dropped us off right by our car. Lovely. The room itself was a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the staff friendly and personable. And the room was clean. I can't say that I slept well, but I didn't sleep badly either. I was very excited about our trip, so that contributed to my not sleeping. Thanks El Rancho!

Room Tip: As far away from the train tracks as possible! Although the soundproofing is pretty good.

I always stay at this motel prior to flying out of SF. The rooms are very nice, bed very comfortable and feel safe leaving car here. To airport great, breakfast delicious. Only bad is pickup from airport. Takes to long.

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of my SFO vacation and also again at the end. I was more than pleased with the many conveniences it offered.
It is easy to use the curbside phone at the airport to call for the shuttle to pick you up. Just keep in mind it might be a 15-20 minute wait for it to arrive, depending on the time of day. There are many different shuttles arriving continuously from various hotels - just read their signs and you'll easily see which one is for you. For your return back to SFO, the front desk will ask you to reserve the shuttle the night before. It's a very well coordinated system - they have more than one shuttle operating during the morning rush, when there is more demand.
The hotel is just a short drive from SFO airport and BART (which makes it very easy to get to downtown San Francisco). There are a number of restaurants around the hotel (including an In and Out Burger just 5 minutes drive away). And there's even a McDonald's directly across the street. Shopping is just a few minutes walk away.
The hotel complex is large and spread out. I found both of my rooms to be a bit on the small side, but they were very nicely decorated and had every amenity I could want. Lots of channels on the television, internet connection (I used the wired connection provided as it was difficult to fiddle with the wifi). If you have difficulty with stairs, or very heavy luggage, you might want to request a room that is not on the second floor.
In both my rooms (in 2 different sections) I had a very pleasant sleep - only once did I hear the noise of a loud suitcase being rolled. I was aware that there were train tracks close by, however, I did not hear it at all.
The morning "departure snack" was more than adequate. A large selection of muffins, toast, baked goods, juice, coffee, and the famous quiche (it was delicious), which they'll warm up for you. The breakfast room can get quite crowded - it can be difficult to get a table at times. So either give yourself some extra time, or take the food with you.
There is a computer and printer in the lobby which is easy to use if you need to print your boarding pass or other info.
This hotel was very convenient, the price was very reasonable, and I would highly recommend it.

Really liked this hotel - we had been on the road for nearly two weeks doing the Pacific coastal highway-staying in different motels/hotels most nights .This was one of the best we stayed in for our final couple of days in San Francisco before flying home.
Rooms were really nice ,clean and roomy. The maid service was great-

Breakfast is a bit of a let down -got there at 8:45 (45 before end of breakfast hours-NOT 5 minutes I will add) on first morning with nothing left -and made to feel awkward for asking .We did get offered a few cornflakes in a paper drinking cup... That was the only part that let it down really.
Tip :don't overlook the Pancake House across the road-does so much more than pancakes-worth a visit!

Room Tip: Try to stay near the front entrance-the train is so close to the back of the hotel -and noisy....

We selected BW El Ranchero online for proximity to SFO for an early flight, but there are certainly more convenient locations available for the price. We gave it a chance based on other positive reviews, but upon arrival, we immediately regretted our decision. Lady at the desk was nice, but slow. Said we didn't have a reservation, when we certainly did. Train tracks (with loud, startling train horn) that seemed to run right through our room every 10 minutes. (Our room was unfortunately, located on the backside of the property). Parking lot was very crowed and poorly lit. Room was clean, but severely outdated. Shower was hot, but only half of the water came out of the shower head, while the other half came out the bottom spout leading to low water pressure. It does have free WiFi, a flat panel TV and mini-fridge, as advertised.

We spent a week in the San Fran area and this was the worst hotel we encountered, and sadly, it also carried the heftiest price tag! Had we not booked through Priceline, we would have asked for our money back and found elsewhere to stay for the night.
