“Got screwed by this Travelodge”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2008

I checked into this hotel and found that the wifi connection in my room wasn't working. Despite several calls to the front desk, it still didn't work, so I decided to check out and find another hotel.

I was surprised when the hotel manager told me that because I had stayed in the room for more than 30 minutes, she would have to charge me for one night's stay. I suppose I might have acutally stayed in the room more than 30 minutes. Sheez, it might have been as much as 35 minutes - most of which was spent trying to get an unacceptable situation rectified.

I think the manager's decision to charge me was deplorable. Her parting comments to me were particularly offensive. This Travelodge has firked me out of $88, but it will be the last $88 that they - or any Wyndham hotel brand - will ever get from me.

There are too many other hotel alternatives available to put up with this sort of treatment. I suggest that you look elsewhere. PS The Quality Suites about two blocks north of the Travelodge is about the same price and their wifi works.

While we respect the views of all of our guests, we occasionally find the need to respond to a guest review that we consider to be inaccurate. Our property utilizes a T-1 line for both our voice and data connections. We have 5 routers placed at stategic points throughout our property whcih we monitor closely as we understand how many of our guests require a strong, clear, fast signal for their business or leisure needs. We continue to offer our wireless connection free of charge to all our guests. When this guest checked into our property, he informed our front desk manager how important the wireless connection was to him. He was placed in a room directly adjacent to one of the routers. The signal is no stronger anywhere else on our property. More and more of our guests are using our wireless signal but many of them have limited knowledge of how to use it. Many expect just to turn on their computer and go. Often there are additional steps that are required but many guests do not want to go to that effort. They expect it to work the exact same way as in there house. When it does not work the exact same way, the guest many times puts the blame immediately on the proeprty. This guest falls into that category as he did not want to listen to any suggestions that the front desk manager offered him. Our server was working fine that day. We always have our computer on behind the front desk and we had no issues at all. We asked the guest to reboot his computer before finding our Travelodge signal. We asked him to turn off any firewalls that might interfere with the reception of our signal. But he did not want to hear any of this and he eventually became more and more demanding in a more and more demeaning tone. He continued to insist that it was not his problem and it must be the hotel problem.. He even insisted that the hotel reboot our entire system. Yet our computer continued to work in the back office. Finally after more than 30 minutesof continual negative interaction with our front desk manager, he stormed down to our front desk and decided to check out. Our front desk manager informed this guest of our 24 hour cancellation policy so he would be charged for 1 night. If this guest had been polite and really had connectivity issues that were the fault of the property, our front desk manager would have gladly waived the 24 hour cancellation policy.
Our Travelodge just won the Travelodge Property of the Year award for the entire United States for 2007. We have also been awarded Travelodge Best Customer Exoerience award for Northern California and Nevada the past 4 years. We understand how important customer service is to our guests.
We also understand the importance of guest reviews on TripAdvisor which is why we wanted to promptly respond to this guest review that we consider to be grossly inaccurate.

My friend and I stayed here for 6 nights, we were looking for a safe, budget accomodation and that is exactly what we found. After having trouble finding accomodation I booked our stay over the phone a week beforehand with Cynthia. The travelodge was much better than our expectations, the room was v.large, the bathroom was a decent size and v.clean, the members of staff were all very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was probably the best we had over a 5 week holiday around america! Overall the travelodge is v.good value for money and although it is 30 minutes from San Francisco, the Bart system is literally a 2 minute walk away. I would definately reccomend the travelodge and would go back again.

Our experience was very positive. It is great for travelers - it is an easy walk to the BART and CALTRAN (mass transit systems into SF, airport, lots of other locations) is why we picked it. But the room was great, the continental breakfast was well above average (ok, it was still a continental breakfast, but has fresh fruit, espresso machine, meat and cheese, a step above muffins).

Matter of fact, the only negative we had was a both the day and night counter person were a bit...snotty. Maybe just caught them on a bad day. But, for example, when asking where the BART was, I got a vague wave in a direction and a "just walk over there". Yep, that goes us there, but if felt...less than courteous. This would not keep us from coming back here though.

This Travelodge was a wonderful place to stay for a visit to San Francisco. We were greeted by Cynthia who proved to be a marvelous source of help and information. She arranged tours for us, helped us get a rental car for one day, and gave us terrific advice about what to see and how to get there in SF. Our room was extremely comfortable, the pillowtop mattress great! The breakfast was amazing--homemade rolls and muffins (great smell in the AM), cereal, fruit, juice, eggs, great coffee, ham, and several items to be toasted. The area is very safel. We walked all over at night and felt very comfortable. Several nice places to eat. The BART location makes trips into SF very simple and ends up at the cable car turnaround which will take you to Fisherman's Wharf and places in between. Great place to stay and see SF without the worry of driving in downtown. Can't say enough about the manager, Cynthia. She was a tremendous help. We had a great time here. Thanks to all involved.

Selected this hotel for a one night stay in San Francisco at the end of my vacation. What a pleasant surprise. First class service at the front desk (hope that Cynthia is working when you show up...she is fantastic). Provided excellent directions and information on how to get where I was going. Informative about all transportation options and the public transit system is just a short walk around the corner!!

Breakfast served in the lobby was excellent and a good way to start the trip home!! Internet access in the lobby gave options for checking in for flights and shuttle was simple and easy to use when leaving.

Hotel was clean and tidy!! Will return again should I ever be in San Francisco again!!

  • Liked — Friendly Staff; Proximity to transit and airport

Very average noisey hotel/motel. Walls are paper thin. Plumbing is so loud. We only stayed as it was close to SFO. Beds are comfy, but thats about it. Breakfast was very basic.
Look for something better if available

While we respect the views of all of our guests, we feel it is our responsibility to respond to any reviews that we feel are inaccurate. Our Travelodge is hardly only average, having won the Travelodge Property of the Year award in 2004 and 2006 and the Best Customer Service award in 2004, 2005, and 2006. We are glad that the reviewer mentioned our bedding as all rooms have Simmons Felicity Pillowtop beds. However, our breakfast is anything but very basic. We offer 2 different coffee machines including one that makes fresh brewed espressos, capuccinos, and lattes in the both regular and decaf, orange and apple juice, fresh baked muffins and pastries from our kitchen, two types of cereal, yogurt, two types of fruit, cold cut meat with two types of cheese, hard boiled eggs, two types of bread, bagels, waffles and french toast that can be toasted, and all the necessary condiments that accompany these items. We realize how important breakfast is our guests and we want to offer a wide variety to satisfy their needs.

Comfortable and clean rooms, helpful staff, convenient location.
The breakfast is amazing, similar to what you get in Scandinavian countries: a real meal.
My only criticism are the plastic knives and forks: replacing them with real knives and forks would produce far less trash.
