“I enjoyed my stay very much”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

I stay at Best Westerns when they're available, but I enjoyed my evening in the room at Childs Meadow, it was different from all that, yet it was clean and the utensils and other items provided in the kitchenette indicated a caring attitude on the owners' part. I didn't shower, so can't address that, but the bathroom was extra clean and towels were in plentiful supply. I had cellular coverage and had brought my own DVD, so I was kept occupied during the evening. The wall heater kept the room very warm during the 30 deg evening. Quiet. Highway runs out front, but there's very little traffic and the room is set far enough back, you have to strain to hear cars.
The cafe breakfast is hearty and lasted me all day till I got home in the evening. I'm looking forward to my next stay.

“*WARNING: STAY AWAY* HORRID!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

WHAT A DUMP! Stayed in the motel for 2 long nights. We couldn't sleep the 1st night as our sinuses were too irritated from the mildew & musty smell with no air circulating, as no air conditioning or fan. We thought about forfeiting the money & going somewhere else but was already dark so decided to stick it out. Fortunately the quite used rodent trap under the bed was empty when we noticed it the next morning! The sparse furniture was old & broken down, the door lock was partially broken & the door chain was hanging by 1 loose screw (the room next door didn't even have a chain). The kitchenette that you pay $10 extra for is an area with a board over a small fridge (that was quite loud when cycling on) with a small microwave (that took over 2 min. to partially heat up some pizza) & a small coffee maker with 2 cups & a partial roll of paper towel. The sound from adjacent rooms comes through loud & clear so we really didn't appreciate hearing the lovemaking of the 2 men in the next room! Cars are parked close to the doors, so with the windows open to get some air, there was a lot of noise from cars, the road (which is close by) & people early in the morning. My wife thought it sounded like a rooming house! We were bothered by the wasps when we sat outside of our room. It's called a resort but there is only a horseshoe pit & a pin-pong table. There are some broken down cabins behind the motel that they call "chalets" that they rent out & an area for RVs & tents in the back (with no apparent outhouse for campers). There is a restaurant (where you get ice for the room from the beverage dispenser). On the upside, the people working there were nice (but why not?...they got our money) & it's close to Lassen. My wife, who is a public health dept. director, reported this place to the Tehema County Health Dept. for multiple code violations. Unfortunately they said that they only regulate restaurants with no regulation or inspections of lodging they so could only tell the owner about her anonymous complaints. The best bet for this place is for the forest fire close by to burn it down!

Room Tip: There appear to be a few nice resorts, bed & breakfasts, etc in the surrounding area. Drakesbad...

“Great place, great prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

The motel room furnishings are spare but all the essentials are there, it's clean, and the price is very right, particularly in the region. The restaurant food is simple, good, and plentiful. The scenery is lovely, comes with wildlife and you can see the Milky Way at night. Ignore the instructions from Lassen - it's a 'nother mile or two more than listed. Just keep staying left at major intersections and you'll get there - the signs, when you get there, are big and obvious. Enjoy.

“mixed review”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

The close location to the S.E. entrance to Lassen National Park was very nice They do take dogs at $10 a dog even for my 6 lb dogs. Felt was a bit expensive for what was provided. $180 for us and the dogs for 2 nights. NO T.V. Internet, telephone, only 2 electric outlets with none in the bathroom. Room was clean and bed comfortable. There is a cafe that offers breakfast and lunch dinner only on Friday and Sat. night. So had to drive about 20 miles RT for dinner. Staff was friendly. Overall "Resort" is a bit of a strech as there is not a swimming pool, spa, tennis etc. If we wanted a friidge, microwave and coffee maker it would be another $10.00 The meadows , and surrounding forest was very lovely. Highway noise loud at times with lots of trucks. We stayed in the Motel

Room Tip: Housekeeping Cabins in the back would be nice for big family groups.

“Great Price!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

Nice accomodations for a great price. Older but clean rooms, helpful staff, and nice views of the surrounding meadows. Moments away from Lassen Nat'l Park and Lake Almanor. Would recommend to friends and will plan on staying there again.
