“Really cool place to stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

I was looking for an inexpensive place to stay while visiting Yosemite for a few days. Didn't want to camp, and wasn't sure how the permanent tents in Yosemite were going to be. The lodges in Yosemite are pretty expensive. The Bug was perfect for its price. Great food selections. We got a 2 bed private room, shared the bathroom with another 2 person room, though we never saw them. There are a few trails around the hostel, be sure to check out the small waterfall and swimming hole, it is really cool. The menu in the cafe is really nice, decent food - or you can cook your own food in the kitchen. The only bummer is the distance from Yosemite, bit of a drive, but we did it everyday. The Bug is out in the middle of nowhere.

Room Tip: There are dorms with bunks, and private rooms.

I stayed here because I wanted to explore Yosemite for a day. I came by myself, and decided to stay outside of the park to save some money. I stayed in one of the HI rooms and there was only one other person in the room for 12, which is semi divided so it was almost like my own room.

I tried to get some food and a drink from the cafe one of the nights I was there but they closed early because it was slow. Understandable as it was off season and there were very few people staying there.

I would stay there again if I ever make it back to Yosemite

We stayed in the large mixed dorm and that is what my rating is based on. Compared to most hostels the room was clean, nice beds, good bathroom facilities and nice and quiet during the night. Plus a great price for the location.
The resort itself is in a good spot, only 30 mins outside Yosemite with a nice scenic drive in. The cafe there is great and well priced, we had dinner and breakfast there and loved both.
If you're looking for a luxury lodge in the heart of the valley this isn't the place for you, but if you want a place to crash before or after a full day exploring Yosemite at a good price then don't hesitate to book here.

I have stayed there only for a night. Staff is friendly and faclities are nice with a great selection of things to do: bar, sauna... I haven't had time to try it all!
Great place to chill out after a long hike in Yosemite.

We have stayed here multiple times with different options. We love the insulated tents cause they are quiet but cozy. Not as much of a fan of the canvas tents cause you can hear everything around you. When we have have a personal bathroom we tend to stay longer. The community bathrooms are also not horrible but we tend to make an effort to use the restaurant or spa bathroom when we can cause they are just nicer.
The price is perfect for us and we love doing the spa options including the jacuzzi and sauna. I have only ever had amazing massages there.
We love that a good amount of the food prepared at the restaurant is grown there or organic. The food is always yummy and they always very gracious to our son. And when we have left overs, and we always do, we can take it to the community kitchen to store. We don't often use that kitchen for much other than left overs primarily cause we love the restaurant so much however when we do plan on using it we do tend to bring our own cook wear just cause it feels like maybe the dish's don't always get as clean as we would like but I think that's cause you hand wash any dish's you use after. But they are well stocked on cooking tools.
And the number one reason why we go there is because of how close to Yosemite it is and how friendly everyone is.

My family and I stayed at the Yosemite Bug several years ago - we have such fond memories of our stay we are now planning a return visit to the U.S hope to stay at the Bug just outside Yosemite with its spa and jacuzzi. The scenery was so breath-taking with the water falls and streams on the property. It was the best part of our stay in California.

Room Tip: We stayed in a log cabin which was very clean and spacious

We stayed at the Bug Inn for a 3 night stay in September 2013. We had one of the log cabin rooms which was roomy and clean, with a large en suite bathroom. This was set on the side of a wooded hill and we had deer's visiting each day. The best part of this complex was the restaurant, the food was home cooked and great value, the drinks were the cheapest we had in the USA!! It was a very informal and relaxing stay and central to visiting Yosemite National Park. It was excellent value for money.
