“Excellent value - reservations may be necessary!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2011

My go to place in Merced for Japanese food. A little out of the way (on the outskirts of town, tucked under the freeway) but that only means they have easy parking. The food is consistently good, fresh and flavorful. The service efficient and friendly. The menu is not over the top with every option under the sun but covers the basics and I invariably go for their tonkatsu which comes with lots of extras included: cucumber salad, cabbage salad, miso soup, tea. So great value. According to some, Merced may not have much but they do have Nagame and for that I am grateful.

“Great Lunch Place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

Another must eat in Merced. Their lunch specials start with a shredded cabbage salad, miso soup and then the main dish comes with pan fried veggies and rice. The Sesame chicken is breaded and fried, then has a light drizzle of their teriyaki sauce. It sounds heavey, but it is actually heavenly - light and crispy goodness. Ask for some extra sauce - it's great on the veggies too!
