My sister, 92 yr old Dad, and I stayed at this hotel in Feb. 2013.I used trip advisor for ratings and it was above my expectations. It was beyond comfortable. The beds were very comfortable with 4 pillows on each bed..."I love that"...Clean, up to date decor, which was inviting had a natural feel. We stayed in a suite because it was only 15 dollars more. It had a nice couch that also was a sleeper. Coffee table,lighting and a very roomy feel . Breakfast was pretty good, more selection than I have ever had.
The only thing I did not like is when my sister called to make the reservation she spoke with someone other than someone from the actual hotel. We wanted to make sure that we were able to have a room on the bottom level, she said yes we can arrange that because they do not have elevators at that hotel..WHAT? Really? I thought that very uncommon, we arrived to be told we are on the third floor but of course we have elevators....So, I wasnt happy with the wrong information, although it all turned out wonderful......You should be able to talk to the hotel you will be residing in.So no confusion on the customers questions.The other very nice touch is a newspaper at your door in the morning. Holiday Inn Express Merced is quite a surprise for a highway pull off stop. Easy off and easy bak on to the freeway. Lots of parking space. A goody snack bag was provided for memebers of Priorty Club, and there were free samples of other bproducts there for the taking. The welcome at the front desk was friendly and efficient. We were given exactly the room and location we asked for. The room was spacious, well lit and exceptionally clean. The bed was most agreeable. No corridor or outside noise. Free newspapers and free wifi that worked well. The free breakfast was fresh and had a wide range of options including fresh fruit, yogurts, omelettes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, sweet rolls, bagels etc. It is hard to fault this place, especially for a price under $100 for two. As a visitor to the US this is the first time I have stayed in a place like this. I will certainly be trying more of this brand in the future.

Stayed in this hotel with my wife while visiting relatives. The hotel has easy access from the freeway and has some good restaurants nearby. It is a fairly new property and more than the normal amenities. The buffet breakfast was alot better then other hotel chains in this has price range. Would highly reccommed this hotel....

I despise this Holiday Inn with a passion. There is a different stench every time you enter the main entrance. The location is terrible. And my biggest pet peeve is....I stayed in over 10 Holiday Inn's in 4 different states, this is the only one I've stayed at that I have to request a refrigerator! People book long stays here and there's only "3" refrigerators in this hotel; this is a cookie cutter designed hotel that is nearly identical minus the carpet and wall paper. But these cheap feeling rooms have a million outlets obviously intended for long term stays and business travelers lacks simple and common things such as a refrigerator and microwave. The rooms are loud, thinned walled, and there is a constant noise from the freeway and trains.

The only redeeming quality about this hotel, is the staff. They are very polite and do their best to make the guest here happy. Katie is awesome, I feel bad that she has to deal with me. I have simple standards that this hotel doesn't meet.
